They squeeze blood from turnips.

It's like the governmental version of a debt collection agency. Accordingly they have greater powers than a debt collection agency. They are authorized to seize assets, monetary or physical, in order to satisfy debts as ordered by the legal system. Aside from bank accounts, they can seize cars, furniture, computers, buildings, etc., and auction them in order to pay your creditors. They are tough but I imagine they are also more ethical and professional than some of the debt collection agencies can be.

They're used especially to collect money owed to the government, but I believe there are circumstances such as involuntary bankruptcy where they may be used to collect money owed to private creditors. Perhaps the latter applies only when the debtor is a company, I'm not sure.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

http://www.oikeus.fi/8851.htm

"The enforcement authorities are to protect the interests of both creditors and debtors. The collection methods used in enforcement include the sending of collection letters, the garnishment of wages and salaries, and the distraint of assets.

The enforcement authorities aim for a voluntary payment after the sending of a collection letter. If no payment is forthcoming, wages, salaries, pensions or business income is garnished or assets distrained. Distrained assets may be sold by compulsory sale."

Sounds like your letting the side down son. If you need some translation help I'm no gynaecologist but I'll have a look if it helps.

Please be careful. If you don't pay second time when you get a notice from them they can make a note to asiakastieto, which you will be able to remove only in 3 years. With this note you will be not able to get any credits, tuohi cards and evening have some problems with renting an apartment from some of the agencies!

To a point. Tv, computer, furniture... depends if it is worthwhile. Old telly won't cover the costs of selling it. New 2k one... probably not alone either.

Yes I read on that website under Garnishment and Distrainment, but is says, ordinary houseold items are not distrained! So maybe only business items.

They don't take your bed, but Mona Lisa on the wall might go under the hammer.
