Finnish grammar and syntax

Post by bluey » Thu Apr 22, 2004 3:40 pm

Hei people?

been learning Finnish constistently for a year now. I find it easier to learn when surrounded by finnish people, but sometimes find myself struggling to remember all the inflectional forms. Actually aquiring vocabulary is no problem.

Is this a normal part of the process for an englishman learning Finnish or am i unique in my struggle? are there any ways to make the learning process easier? Also, when I actually do talk to finns in finnish I struggle to interpret what is being said to me, though alot of those people are from Savonlinna (wide-accent).

My main text for learning is a book (accompanied by an audio conversation tape) called "Learn Finnish", by Terttu Leney. Does anyone recommend something else?

Aye Aye

I've also got the Teetu Linney book... Personally I've got a bookshelf full of 'learn Finnish' books and as you say, they best way is to just get out and speak it with the natives...

So are you ar real Taffy, or just an Englishman hiding in Cardiff

Cheers
Gavin
