Re: Dating a Finnish guy
hi!
my boyfriend is finnish and I'm mexican =).
I met him on vacation too and we've been dating for a year and a half.
Of course we have a long distance relationship, but I can tell you, even though is not for everyone, it can work pretty well.
Finnish guys are super shy! and sometimes a little bit cold in the beginning, but once you break that ice up, it turns pretty amazing and they can be most loving boyfriends.
I recommend of course to use skype!, if you really want this to work you should make use of every technological communication media, facebook, whatsap, lots of mails, skype... and of course, regular old fashion mail. Yes, sending letters is not just the most romantic thing ever, but it'll help you to feel that closeness that you both be lacking.
Also sending little package details helps a lot.
My boyfriend and me send each other package full of candy, personal items and stuff. Is the best and most exciting way to keep connected.
Have the best of lucks! and you can of course leave me any question!.
Marina.

Okay...I get it! He is into something serious morethan a shag. Go for him. Yes, message him and ask him about his feelings for you. Be natural and real. No games ok? He sounds more like serious man. This is a relationship starting here ....I can tell!!! Go for him

Re: Dating a Finnish guy
I´ve dated a finnish guy on/off for around 5 years. We are now very good friends and one of the people I can completely trust.
Finnish guys are really careful and shy at the beginning. They are "Icemen"
at the beginning, especially when they dont know you. But as soon as they start trusting you they will always stand by your side, no matter what.
I have mostly finnish men as friends
But all of them are just amazing and I can always count on them, even if we dont have contact for a little while (I am now back in Germany) and we are getting in touch again it still feels like we have just spoken yesterday.
The only thing I personally found was always not easy it that you are a foreign girl and at the end they still go back to a finnish woman. I dont know why this is, I´ve seen this with other relationships as well (Where the guy was finnish and she was foreign). They usually tend to go back to a finnish woman, as there is always a difference in culture bewteen finnish and foreign (Even though it was not that much of a difference in my case).
I hope all this make sense
But I would always date again a finnish guy
(Where is the heart button here
Good luck!

If he doesn't like you, he won't be chatting back to you.FinnishDreamer wrote:Hi everyone!

The visit was incredible!!!!!! I had the time of my life!!! I met a lot of his friends we went out to clubs a couple of times and it was so much fun

I honestly didn't know what to expect but what happened way overpassed even my greatest hopes

Now the issue is how do we approach the future.. Neither of us can move to the other country any time soon but I invited him to visit whenever he wants to so maybe there is a chance for a long distance relationship

Thank you all for the great advises this website rocks!!

Hi everyone!
Things with the Finnish guy i'm talking with are going much better;we're talking more frequently and for hours and we exchanged phone numbers.I told him that i like him and he told me that he likes me back;also he told me that i am beautiful
I don't want to get carried away but i want to believe that these are good signs;Problem is i have to wait 5 months till i visit Helsinki cause i only can travel in August, and he knows it..
What i want to ask is,what can i do from now on..What more can i do to make things get better and keep our communication at a high level? i can't wait to go and see him and it makes me sad that i can't be close to him right away..
He is such a good, mature and funny guy and i think he deserves the effort

"I am very willing to admit that I am trying to broaden my horizon here when it comes to Finnish men ..." - your horizon must be very narrow to start with if you think Finnish men can broaden it!!!

Re: Dating a Finnish guy
This is really strange, after reading this, I'm starting to wonder if my boyfriend is Finnish after all...
True, he can be really shy and he was very nervous in the beginning. But he told me he loved me really soon (and first) and keeps telling me
all the time. And he is almost always the first telling me, because I'm actually a lot more cautious and slow than him when it comes to confessing
my love. He is the sweetest boyfriend I ever had, constantly telling and writing me sweet things.
True, he is quite young (late 20s) and has been living abroad several times. But still, he really so doesn't fit the picture of Finnish men I read
about here

Re: Dating a Finnish guy
Interesting posts here I do come from a background where verbal validation is kind of the norm...we have been dating for 2 years nearly and we travel to see each other he has come to my country but I have not been to finland as yet work and other commitments make it a bit hard right now. But my main frustration is the communication when we are together I can't stop him from talking and we have such great times together but when apart I kind of need to prod him into speaking. ..we do the Skype and whatsapp etc thing but he can be content with 3 days of silence.
Is that a normal thing in the finnish culture or could I be dragging out the inevitable
I am not the out of sight out of mind type but it feels like it with my guy at times.
