Let me start off by saying I am a female from America! I am in my mid 20's. Well over a year ago, I moved to finland with my husband.
He was born in Finland and we met while he was in America, we fell in love and got married a few years later.
We decided to move to Finland so we did just that. I managed to get my residence permit based on Family ties just fine.
I also managed to register our marriage just fine as well.
Well it expired after the first year. I stupidly enough did not reapply before it expired.
I am dumb and had no knowledge I was supposed to so yes I got lectured on it.
Regardless I payed the money and still got to reapply with permission to be in Finland until it's decided.
My question is, has anyone sent it in late after it expired, will it affect there decision?
It's driving me crazy they will deny it because of it. Also I hear you have to go back to your country and deal with an appeal in 10 months or up to a year later.
I have no where to return, I am not close to my family. I don't have many relatives either. I have no remaining friends in America.
So it would be really hard to return there if I have to deal with an appeal. I am just wondering how it will go. I am really anxious over it.
Advice, similar experience?

I don't see any reason to think you would not get a new permit. The reason is still the same and valid, no problem.
It just a new one year permit, instead four years that you would have got with a properly renewed permit. Also the period of continuous residence was reset, which pushes back the date you can apply for permanent residence permit or citizenship. Worse still, if you're working you've been probably doing that illegally since the expiration date and KELA may think your coverage (public health care and any monetary benefits) also expired and will not be valid before you actually have the new permit. I really do not know about the latter, whether you should ask them or be quiet and hope they do not notice.

You're married to a Finnish man and you live in Finland. They're not sending you anywhere. Stop worrying about it
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

It really depends to the local police etc, and perhaps the missed time.Rip wrote:It just a new one year permit, instead four years that you would have got with a properly renewed permit. Also the period of continuous residence was reset
A friend of mine in similar situation - did not lost anything, the police have issued a new RP since the next day of the previous RP . She had been later for about a month, but she had a common child with her husband.

also, you are from "trusted" country so I doubt authorities will go John McClane on you.
Or just tell them in 1950s Trans-Atlantic accent (you know the one you hear in army training videos from that time) that you will bomb freedom and democracy on them, and there's a carrier battle group on its way

Well, they were very kind. I'd say kinder than they really ought have been: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70800 (the second case on the list)mdn wrote:It really depends to the local police etc, and perhaps the missed time.Rip wrote:It just a new one year permit, instead four years that you would have got with a properly renewed permit. Definitely one should not trust on getting such favors.
