Post by april24 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 1:52 pm

Hi,

I need to get a medical certificate to exchange my foreign driving license
to finnish driving license.

(Per the information from this link https://www.poliisi.fi/poliisi/home.nsf ... 37002CD440)

Can someone please let me know where I can get this medical certificate ?

Thanks.

I currently live in Espoo near Leppavara.
If you don't mind to wait for a time, then most likely your local health station. That's where I did mine but it was a decade ago.

Have you seen anywhere a definition of what needs to be checked for a medical certificate or a comprehensive medical report?

ARE YOU 70+ or your permit is already expired - you need medical otherwise no.

a medical certificate for a driving licence on the same criteria that apply to renewing a Finnish driving licence.

It isn't so clear cut.
www.poliisi.fi wrote: If the applicant turns 70 before the driving licence to be renewed expires (For example, if the last day of validity of the driving licence to be renewed is the applicant’s 70th birthday, a medical certificate must be attached to the application for renewal, even if the applicant is not yet 70 at the time of submitting the application).
(My italics)

I guess an applicant could be any age old enough to hold a driving licence in their country of origin. If their licence is valid until at least their 70th birthday they would need a medical. For example, I think French licences last your whole life. If so, any French applicant would need a medical, regardless of age.

Thanks for the link BTW, although I am interested in finding out details of the mentioned criteria. I am not over 70 and my driving licence expires the day before my 70th birthday so this is not a problem I currently face, but I have an annual medical for another type of driving licence and I am curious how that compares.

For non EEA licenses it is always required:

Thanks guys for the information.
I called http://www.terveystalo.com/fi/Palvelut/ ... distukset/ yesterday and found that the cost
of getting medical certificate was 80 EUR.

Then I did some googling and found another place called Omalääkari mj oy in Vaasankatu (Helsinki) who also issue medical certificate.
Its price seem to be 30 eur. So I called them and found that they will open on 20 Jan 2015.
So I will call on 20 Jan again and try to take an appointment.

Meanwhile, just wanted to check if anyone has visited Omalääkari and can confirm if the license they issued is legitimate
one which is acceptable by Polisi?

Thanks much for all help so far :)
