Searching for a family in / from Liperi

Post by jamesdejode » Sat Aug 08, 2015 5:58 am

Around the year 1981 / 1982, I was an exchange student, living with a family in Liperi. I cant remember the exact name of the family, but their name was Krogger, or something similar to that.

The things I do remember about the family are: The father served in the local police force. I am not sure if the mother worked. There where 3 children, two boys and a girl. They lived around the area of Pappilantie / Mäntytie.

I would really like to get back in touch with the family, and the friends of the family.

Hope someone can help

do you mean this Liperi?
i was living in both outokumpu and joensuu for a while, so i remember the name...
anyhow, was their name really "Krogger"? because that's a very un-finnish name, and it should be easy to find them.
have you thought of contacting Liperi (or maybe rather Joensuu) police?

It might have been "Kröger", which seems to be among the 1000 most common surnames.

I am uncertain of the spelling of the family name. I just remember it was one of the happiest time in my life. I had a wonderful time, and was made so welcome.

Would you have some more names? I found a Kröger in the police, but he's in Kuopio.

since you're so uncertain of the name itself, maybe you should call the police in liperi (if they even still have a police office there) and try to talk to someone who was working there then.
a small town, someone is likely to remember someone whose surname starts with a K and had a foreign exchange student in 81/82.
(a friend told me once that when she moved to pohjois-karjala in the 80's, there was 12 foreigners living there. yes, in all of north karelia.
