Hi I am wanting to know exactly what this piece of writing means
Miten saada tuo kaikkein suurin voima lisääntymään ihmisissä niin, että kaikki rakkauden muodot olisivat yhtä hyväksyttäviä.
It is the last line of a long story that has translated well until I get to that part and then i am struggling to understand what is meant and why the sentence has been constructed like that.
Thanks

Miten saada
How to get
tuo kaikkein suurin voima
that greatest power of all
lisääntymään ihmisissä niin,
to multiply in people so,
että kaikki rakkauden muodot
that all forms of love
olisivat yhtä hyväksyttäviä.
would be equally acceptable.

Something wicked this way comes."

It is talking about increasing the power of love rather than talking about the greatest power in people to reproduce?

There's no reference to reproduction, "increase" would be more accurate than "multiply". There could be an implied reference to love as it's mentioned in the same sentence, or it refers to something in the context the sentence is in (e.g. preceding text, which we don't know).judderbar wrote:It is talking about increasing the power of love rather than talking about the greatest power in people to reproduce?

Thanks. My brain was fixated on the great drive of humans to reproduceFinnGuyHelsinki wrote:There's no reference to reproduction, "increase" would be more accurate than "multiply". Yep... it's not about that.judderbar wrote:Thanks. My brain was fixated on the great drive of humans to reproduce
Sure, lisääntyä does have that meaning as well - "to reproduce", as in lisääntykää ja täyttäkää maa - but interpreting it that way in this context does not make any sense, as the text says lisääntymään ihmisissä. (Unless you're talking about parasites, such as the tapeworm, or some scene which might draw the interest of a forensic entomologist.)

Ewwww. Thanks for that.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

I think that falls into the fascinating category rather than Eeeewww.Bavarian wrote:Jukka's comment reminds me of this story from earlier in the week.
Alden's "Eeewww" comment fits.
Tape worms are relatively common in warmer poorer countries, presumably had the diagnosis been made much earlier the person would not have died a few days after the diagnosis
