I can`t think of a good reason why it should have any effect.

I really don"t think that is even information you're asked to disclose. It is not a crime.

I think it has to be disclosed if you are registering a new company or if you are registering an association. A bankrupt person cannot be on the executive board of an association and I assume the same is true of companies.

No idea about residency permits though.

And how exactly would they find out?

Going bankrupt is not a crime, just one of those unfortunate things that can happen for a number of reasons with a business.
You could argue the fact that it`s a bonus to have that experience behind you.

There is no "personal banktrupcy" in Finland, and only recently your children did not inherit your crimes/debt...
The Finnish "credit record" is like the "criminal record" check - "no records"

I might be wrong but I think personal bankruptcy exists in Finland since circa 2009. I assume Finland had to get in line with EU legislation.

There is: "Konkurssiin voidaan asettaa luonnollinen henkilö sekä yhteisö, säätiö ja muu oikeushenkilö. "

Per above there's personal bankruptcy. The problem is that it does not immediately discharge debts.

"Konkurssin vaikutuksesta konkurssisaatavan vanhentumiseen säädetään erikseen velan vanhentumisesta annetussa laissa."

"Vanhentumisen keskeytys jatkuu läpi koko konkurssin ajan ja vanhentumisaika alkaa kulua uudelleen vasta konkurssin päätyttyä. "

In finland you need to start proper business with vat numbers and registrations, arrange occupational healthcare, take care of unemployment and pension payments, and regular taxes...
