When did you apply? August? According to previous messages, it seems they are processing August applications now.Jimmy_Jack wrote:Hi Everyone,

Re: Citizenship Applications 2016
Hi guys , I need help with citizenship application. I have lived in Finland for a total of 8/5 years, 3 years on B and 3 years on A, but the issue is, after I got my first A, I applied for the 4 years after that but it took almost 8 months before I got a decision. I was still living in Finland , during that time I was in the language school. The decision was negative and i reapplied and it took another 8 months before it got ready and I got a positive decision but they gave me 1 year , after this one year , I applied and got 4 years and a;ll this time I have been in Finland. I want to know does the negative decision affects me in a anyway? does also the waiting period for 8 months also affects me in anyway. I will be glad to get some ideas. Thanks guys.

There does not seem to be a provision that would interrupt residence period in this case so you should be eligible.derick wrote:Hi guys , I need help with citizenship application. Hi thanks for the information, it has really been useful and I appreciate it. Stay blessed.
Re: Citizenship Applications 2016
Hi guys I need some help. Advices very much appreciated:
1) Residence period:
My residence period requirement for the citizenship application will be fulfilled in August. (I need 5 years and now is my fifth year. >4.5 years in total now.) I am wondering if I can start the application before August, e.g. in June? (simply as a matter of saving time in queuing because very likely my application will be lying somewhere untouched for a month or two before it is processed.)
2) Income requirement:
I was a full-time student before 2016. Officially started with student b-permit and then switched to A-permit based on established relationship with a Finn. During my study I supported my living by savings, short-term contracts and freelance contracts. I am now a freelance translator. I have a toiminimi, but I don’t make much from Finland (not paying VAT). Most of my income comes from outside EU, but I don’t bill my foreign clients. Instead I sign freelance contracts with them.
I will ask VERO about how to declare my not-so-stable foreign income (whether it is done through the T:mi or sth else), but I am more than happy to hear similar experiences.
3) During the wait:
I’d like to take up a one-year job outside EU at the beginning of next year, but I am probably still waiting for the application result at that time. Will it affect my application if I leave during the wait? My A-permit expires in summer 2018.
Paljon kiitoksia!

Re: Citizenship Applications 2016
1. You could have even applied already when you had 4 years of equivalent A (continuous permit) i.e for the past four years without interruption, if you had already passed the language test as you have strong ties with Finland (married or living together with a Finn).
http://www.migri.fi/finnish_citizenship ... nce_period
So, you can apply now if you have passed the language test. I would recommend to apply as soon as possible and apply online (saves money and processing time)
2. You can show other source of income (even your family member can support you and you can show it as income source. You can read more about this in the application form (citizenship), read number 7 (different types of sources of income) in the application. Even KELA support can be shown as source of income.

3. Question about waiting period, I think, you are not allowed to stay outside Finland for longer period during the application process, if your stay is considered to be an interruption. However, it would be better if you ask an immigration specialist for more information over telephone,

good luck

You are expected to be a resident in Finland when the decision is made: "A requirement for citizenship is that you live in Finland and that you have done so for a sufficient length of time (period of residence). "suhokim wrote: 3) During the wait:

Re: Citizenship Applications 2016
If you have a spouse who is earning enough income to care for both of you, it is enough to show as long as she can provide the documents for you. I did same

I had two one-year b-permits before switching to the a-permit, so I need 5 years of residence. I guess I better wait. My experience in Finland tells me that over-following the rules always helps.
My spouse is a student and we dunno how much savings is enough in the eyes of migri, so I guess it'd better to show my unstable income... (?)
And I will definitely call!

Thank you! I understand your point, but I will still ask the authorities just to make sure.betelgeuse wrote:You are expected to be a resident in Finland when the decision is made: "A requirement for citizenship is that you live in Finland and that you have done so for a sufficient length of time (period of residence). Re: Citizenship Applications 2016
It is usually required 5 years ["for the last five years without interruption (continuous period of residence)"] of continuous permit (combination of equivalent A and A permit) for other people without strong ties with Finland.
http://www.migri.fi/finnish_citizenship ... nce_period
As you had total of 2 years B permit, it will be counted as 1 year of equivalent A permit (continuous permit). Therefore, you will need another (at least) 3 years of A permit which will make 4 years of equivalent of A permit and you are then eligible to apply if you have passed the language test as you have a Finnish partner.
So, I think, you are only eligible to apply after August 2016.
Anyways, here you can find some information regarding how many months you can stay outside of Finland without problem.

Thank you. However, the migri info is about the eligibility of the citizenship application aka before applying, but my concern is whether or not I can leave Finland after I apply and before I get the result. I think I will have to call...mois_2012 wrote:It is usually required 5 years ["for the last five years without interruption (continuous period of residence)"] of continuous permit (combination of equivalent A and A permit) for other people without strong ties with Finland.
