moving question

Post by biscayne » Tue Dec 13, 2016 9:30 am

Does anybody have any specific experience or knowledge related to moving stuff out of Finland to Central Europe (South Austria, Slovenia, North-East Italy) I don't want to go through Victor Ek as they are really expensive. I would have a small van's worth of stuff - small couch, armchair, coffee table are the only furniture worth moving, the rest is the usual mix of books, clothing etc.

I have looked into it myself, as I know people hate it when forum users don't use the search facility, plus I have looked into it elsewhere, but if anyone had any specific information, I would be grateful.

I am asking about those areas, because if anyone moved stuff to anywhere in those areas, it would give me an idea of the price. (I want to move stuff to Slovenia, but could easily pick up from the port of Trieste etc.)

Thanks.

Well, that's exactly what the removals and art transport firm that I work for does - we specialise in this kind of transport between Finland, Europe and the UK. Please PM me if you would like contact details.

If you want specific information, what is your question?

Prlly not much help ... I spent a year working based in Milan 2013-14.

As I recall Victor Ek seemed to be the only game in town - quoted ~€4k to move a small apartment's contents from Finland to Italy.
The Italian employer would have paid but eventually we decided not to send anything as the job looked like it was not going to work long term, it was a good decision as I was gone after 1 year.

When my (former) employers paid to send back a small apartment's worth of stuff to me in Finland (large corner sofa, double bed, 25- odd packing boxes) and using an Italian company, they paid around €2k ... and even then it was Victor Ek who handled it at the Finnish end.

Ek is certainly not the only game in town, far from it. If for any reason the company I work for can't help the O. P. then I'd have several other suggestions for him or her. Assuming they contact me of course, I haven't heard anything yet. Maybe they have already found a solution.

I don't like mentioning the name of the company I work for here because I'd rather when people do Google searches they end up at the company website, rather than seeing lots of links to a message board. It's a minor point though and anyone who browses my posts on here will be able to work out which one it is. We have five wagon and drag combinations constantly on the move between Finland and Europe. I was in Brussels yesterday, Paris today, Brussels tomorrow, then jobs in the Netherlands and Germany before returning to Finland on Monday. it's never more than a few days between visits of one of our vehicles to most the major European capitals, We don't subcontract, either, it's always one of us who does the job. There really isn't a competitor that can offer this level of service.

Italy and Eastern Europe are less frequent destinations than say Brussels London and Paris, but having said that I've been to Austria and Hungary three or four times this year, and made many many trips to Switzerland, I know colleagues have been to Italy recently though as well as Spain and Portugal.

Zetor pilot, thanks, and I will pm you.

In terms of a specific question, I wanted to know if anyone had moved the amount of stuff I described to the destinations I mentioned. I want to move the stuff to Slovenia, but as I said, I could pick up from Trieste as it is very near and a big port. Sometimes people do move stuff in obscure ways (I know a guy who knows a guy etc..........) and can give you tips, or want to share a pallet etc. I moved stuff here via a well known company who used to deal a lot with my previous workplace and they moved a load of boxes for me for half-price. But, I knew the guys there in the branch office, I don't have any contact with that company's offices here..............

Reason why I am asking is that yes, as mentioned, Victor Ek seems to be (based on a search) the only game in town and because the location is more unusual, they are quoting about 5k, which I don't think is worth it.

Just briefly (I've just pulled over for a quick break, I'll be online again later this evening probably) I wonder how you were searching? I've just googled "Muuttopalvelu eurooppaan" and we were the first Google ad suggestion and well up the list of other hits. It's disappointing that we weren't first on the list though, there is obviously some tweaking of the metadata to do on our web pages, I'll mention it to the boss!

No, I have not moved to Trieste or somewhere there but I know that there are a bunch of smaller removal companies operating in Europe that can organise the removal. Muuttopalvelu Kahari where zetor works, has a good reputation. If you do search on this forum, you will encounter other names as well. Even if they do not have frequent freight there, I am sure they can subcontract a local company to take them wherever you want. That is how logistics work.

You will be lucky if the big ones Victor Ek or similar give even a quote, usually not, unless you pester them.

I have no idea of what viktor ek prices are, but your question reminds me of something I read here on the forum, might be an idea to check out, the add humoured me anyway

Seems some curiosity was generated by others as well  although this was mainly about the Poster his(or hers) price...as he (or she) says himself:
As you can calculate yourself, this service is mostly convenient for very small distances (but extremely suited for special deliveries when confidentiality / sensitivity or security is wanted).
although I think it is a "he".. but hey this is Finland, women are very emancipated here

Anyway good luck with moving..and best wishes for the new year :beer_yum:
If god would give us the source code, we could change the world

Hi!

We are moving soon to Finland and we are trying to figure out the best way to do so.
I've been reading post of 'zetorpilot' and I'm very interested in hearing about your company. But it seems I currently cannot message you? Would you mind sending me a message if possible?
Thank you in advance,
Timothy or Timppa =)
