I've done this before. If you pay for the part, I can repair the phone for you for free. I think the part is 5-10 euros.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

I would use this thread to ask a related question. My lumia 820 sim slot's center wire has been displaced while I was trying to take the sim out. Does somebody has an idea where could I get that fix in Espoo(preferably)/Helsinki area?
