Kela maternity benefits

Post by popeyeps » Wed Feb 01, 2017 1:17 pm

Hi,

I am from non-EU country and working as a software engineer for past 2 years in Finland.
Can someone please elaborate on how and when I should start the procedure with Kela to obtain maternity benefits?
I mean any procedures to be done before the birth of a child regarding maternity benefits?
What one should do after the birth of a child wrt Kela?

My company policy is that they will pay first 3 months salary during my maternity leave (not sure if it is general thing) and then have to be with Kela.

Also, am I still entitled to maternity benefits if I decide to deliver baby in homeland?
Is there a limitation that to receive maternity benefits from my work/Kela, you have to give birth in Finland?

Have you read the "Brochure Home and Family (pdf)" from kela.fi?
