Registered partnership?
I am an American female. My boyfriend is Finnish. We are wanting to live full time in Finland, but aren't religious so we don't necessarily want to be married. What are the options? Are registered partnerships only for same-sex couples? Do we have to be married since I am a foreigner?

No new registered partnerships can be.. registered anymore, not since same sex marriage was legalized.Pienifaenkeli wrote:I am an American female. My boyfriend is Finnish. I personally have never seen marriage as a religious thing, even though some couples do get married in church (or equivalent).

In Finland, marriage is essentially registering your relationship. Additional religious ceremonies are optional.Pienifaenkeli wrote:but aren't religious so we don't necessarily want to be married.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

You can use the cohabitation option or any of the non family categories.Pienifaenkeli wrote:I am an American female. My boyfriend is Finnish.
