Citizenship application

Post by kapunev » Tue Apr 25, 2017 6:35 pm

I have the following:

6.13 - 12.14 (B - Type was student, although I got a full time job in 9.16)
12.14 - 12.15 (A - Type)
12.15 - 12.19 (A - Type)

Language certificate managed some 3s and some 4s. Single and no history of bad debt or anything unusual. According to migri ( assuming A + B/2 = 4 years and permanent job) I am eligible to apply maybe by 3.18. Would I be risking 350 eur if I apply already? Just curious. Any responses will be appreciated.

You don't meet the residence period requirement of 5 years continuous until 6.18. Apply early without a weighty reason and you will very likely be rejected and lose 350 EUR.

What's your hurry?

Strong ties with Finland = 4 years residence required only. I understood even the language cert. is enough for 4 years req. But don't apply earlier than the 4 years period.

With fives and sixes yes, but not with threes and fours - that is the minimum requirement anyway.

You have old info: http://www.migri.fi/finnish_citizenship ... nce_period

You have the required language skills and strong ties with Finland

If you have the required language skills to apply for citizenship, it is enough that you have had your permanent residence and domicile in Finland

* for the past four years without interruption or
* for a total of six years after you reached the age of 15, with the last two years without interruption.

I would apply in September 2017 if I were you. I got citizenship when applying 6 months before I fulfilled the 4 year requirement. It took them about 6 months to process my application. Therefore you should not apply earlier than 6 months because they may process your application before you fulfill.

thanks for the replies. Yes I am in no hurry to waste 350 EUR. If 4 years + language = strong skills then I rather wait until March 2018 before I apply. September 2017, although tempting would in my opinion be a bit too risky. :)

I applied on 5th October 2016. Processing started 24th April 2017. I was expecting it to start between 8-9 months as was the expected time when I had applied last year.

Now the issue is that I was one month short of the criteria of last 2 years continuous residency on 24th April 2017 (i.e. when the processing started). All other criteria are fulfilled.

There has been no change in status since 24th April 2017 till today.

Any pointers on what could be the possible fate of my application and what I can do at this point?

It appears migri has speeded up the process since they took over from poliisi.

Migri makes their own decision immediately after you provide the request for additional information. At that point, they send your application around to all other authorities for comments. This includes vero, poliisi, kela, foreign ministry, and a few others. The comment period is 30 or 45 days, I don't remember precisely. During the comment period, any of these authorities can object to your citizenship if they have a reason to do so. If nobody objects during the comment period, then migri will send you the positive decision.

There is no such comment process. Migri can get the information it requires from other authorities by accessing the IT databases of other authorities.

I have yet to see a comment by podzap that isn't half bullsh*t.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

So any ideas how much time migri would take to give decision since it seems that they have identified the only unfulfilled criteria on the day (24 April 2017) they started processing my application - i.e. I was 1 month short of last 2 years continuous residency.

Would they put in the slow queue or fast queue?
how long can it be??
Can they reject it for the reason of one month shortness in this criteria??
