Yes, you must meet the language requirement when you apply. There are more options than YKI to meet this requirement.Susan wrote:Did all of you passed the language test before applying to citizenship?
Citizenship Application 2017

Re: Citizenship Application autumn/winter- 2016/2017
I went to the police station to do fingerprinting for my new passport almost immediately after receiving my citizenship decision. They confiscated both my residence permit card and my id card right there on the spot.Uusi Mies wrote:Can someone who has experience can advise me what to do with the residence permit card after receiving the citizenship. I have been granted the citizenship and have applied the passport too and when i visited the police station, they handed back me my residence card. In the decision for citizenship, it has been written that the residence permit shall no longer be used as Finished Citizen and the card shall be returned back. Are we suppose to return the residence permit card to some where other than police station?
Thanks in advace
Note that after receiving Finnish citizenship, it is illegal to use previous identity documents which were issued by the Finnish government. If you are a dual citizen, it is also illegal to attempt to enter into Finland with any passport except the Finnish passport. Also illegal to use the foreign passport to identify yourself inside of Finland, though fairly unlikely you would get caught for showing it to a Forex service counter.

The other ways to demonstrate language proficiency are at the following Migri page:Susan wrote:Thank you. What are the other options than YKI for meeting the language requirement for citizenship?

No, it doesn't. You can turn it in to any police station that has a "permit services" section (lupapalvelut) while you are there handling other business and they will pass it on to migri for you.Susan wrote: The residence permit card has to be returned to the Immigration Office in Sornainen. Hey everyone
I have one small question regarding the continous stay. I came to finland study and stayed after graduation. During the last year of my studies i applied for a Student visa and before the decision was made, I graduated and the police gave me an A permit. But for that period of time (7 months) i was in Finland with no visa. Does this mean i am not eligable to count the Student years. The mirgi officer asked for an explanation and i told her the same thing. It has been a year yet No decisions.
Thanks

Hello,
Please check your residence in Finland at this link. Every single detail is available here https://verkkopalvelu.vrk.fi/omat/Etusivu.aspx. If it does say your residence is in Finland is permanent from the time you had no permit it will be counted towards citizenship.

As I remember you submitted additional documents on request. Does your application timeline shows something like following :
Your application is waiting for your reply to a request for supplementary information.
You have replied to a request for supplementary information.
They also asked my additional info about travel and income but I dont see such updated in my timeline, which some people's timeline shows these statements.

If they ask for source of income and travel information after application. Then it means you have to update them if you need to do so otherwise ignore the email/message. It's general information and some people don't need to update at all. But on other hand if they ask you something specific i.e your degree, x to y times you were unemployed how did you support yourself? etc. Then the person who is handling your case will create transaction and will write you a personal letter with his/her own name. I hope it will help you.
