Hello.
After living in Finland for 6 months as an exchange student, I would like to emigrate to Finland. But I have four very tricky questions.
1. Finland or Sweden?
In my limited experience: It is easier to go to Sweden, but refugees (and a hike in crime) also thinks so.
2. Language
I have been warned that I cannot get a job without speaking Finnish. The problem is: you cannot learn Finnish over the internet. Okay, you can, but not good enough for a job. Swedish is easier to learn, and it seems that employers are more positive towards Finnish speakers.
3. Work
I am a specialist in the music and video game industry. I am willing to work in the countryside at a school, but I have been warned about the requirement to speak Finnish. What would you suggest?
3. Partner
My partner is an optometrist - a locally respected and experienced optometrist. Is it possible for him to get a job and tag me along? I would be happy to do anything - dishwashing, cleaning... in short, manual labour.
Where do I start with the moving process?
PS1: Partner and I are learning Swedish atm.
PS2: We do not have EU working permits.
Kind regards

1. Not all Sweden is bad, there are issues in some regions into big cities were for example ambulance and fire cars don't enter without police escort.
2. You can get a job with English mainly in IT field but also in cleaning or kitchen help, but is not easy.
3. Yes, you need to speak Finnish, Swedish will be a plus.
4. What kind of specialist? Can you work in gaming companies? There are plenty in Finland.
5. Any health jobs will require qualifications to be recognized in Finland, that is probably few years of learning here and of course speaking fluent Finnish.
PS2: you need to get a job before you can come, also you need to have to meet income requirement. You or your partner will not get easily a permit for a cleaning job or any manual labor, there are plenty of people here who can do that and they speak the language also.

If you are already learning swedish, then I guess you want to go to Sweden ?! Swedish is the second language of Finland, but if you want to communicate with someone in Finland, you have to speak finnish.
