Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I spoke to a cousin of mine in the army and he said you will get a place if you apply for it, most likely you will share with someone else on weekends. I'm currently up in Nurmes now, relaxing and fishing. I visited Sweden and Norway and drove around most of Finland, is there anything else I should do before summer ends?

Run back to Australia before the cold hits.

You won't know what will hit you if you end up on night duty, in the middle of winter, doing the rounds outside in -30 freezing cold. Nothing can keep you warm then

Have fun!

To the guy above, yeah, Australian accents do well with ladies here it turns out, had a sweet old time.

Yep, I have nearly finished AUK II and dear God P-Kausi was horrible. We had a week of that -20 to -30 weather and those @#$% night guards were horrible. No sleep, exhausted, freezing trudging through deep forest snow. Brrrr.
I live in Helsinki in an apartment on weekends and Kela is paying for it, sorry tax payers.

To the people who said don't come, I'm very glad I didn't listen and I did, been a fantastic experience so far, made boat loads of friends and meet someone new every day, it's a great time.

Very nice to hear! The army is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but there really are plus sides too. I absolutely hated the service part (am about the least military person there is) but the people around were so grand, truly a company of friends...

I'll be going to Verkarajarvi!
My uncle offered me some work as a labourer up north so hopefully that will keep me going until the end of the year.

As for the apartment, does anybody else have any comments on that? Because a studio would be great, I love the women here and it would be nice to invite them for a nice steak dinner once in a while haha
Just don't buy the steak at a local super, make sure you get it from a specialist (real butcher) otherwise you will be chewing more than eventually swallowing the nice steak. (purokummi means anything to you??) :ochesey:

You will notice as a steak lover that the average meat here in Finland is really of a saddening quality.
