open studies
Re: open studies
No, it's not. Open studies do not lead to any degree, you cannot get residence permit based on these studies and do not qualify for the state’s student financial aid or any other student discounts.
Re: open studies
Getting sufficient credits through the Open Uni can give you direct access to some degree programmes without taking an entrance exam (though the number of places through this route is limited). For example, a BBA at a UAS might offer one or two places to students with 60 credits from the Open Uni. These credits would have to be from relevant courses and the route is agreed up front. As mentioned above, you are "on your own" financially when you take that route. It's difficult to imagine how someone can achieve 60 credits and support themselves financially at the same time...
If you apply to a UAS through the normal route (ie entrance exam) and you already have some ad hoc credits from Open Uni courses, these are transferable through the RPL system (Recognition of Prior Learning - or AHOT in Finnish). But each university has its own rules about this so best to check online.
