Hi everyone,
I just received a job offer from Norway, for which I need to be there next week. But my current resident permit in Finland has just expired unfortunately. I've already applied for extension and now waiting for the new card. Can I travel to Norway during the waiting time?
It looks like Poliisi can extend visa "if the visa holder is able to present proof of serious personal reasons" (http://www.poliisi.fi/licences/other_pe ... _extension). I'm not sure if its applicable in my case.
Does anyone have similar experience?
Traveling to Schengen while waiting for extension
Re: Traveling to Schengen while waiting for extension
Visa is for visiting, residence permit is for residing. You can't extend visa as you don't have one. You could ask if you would get one, but I think police would act just like McD clerk if asked for filet mignon.rhiday wrote:Hi everyone,

Yeah, you are right. I visited a police station today morning and the lady in counter reacted just like that. She was also suspecting I am trying to 'fly away'.

De facto due to the Nordic Passport Union there should not be problems to travel. However, de jure safest would be to get a Visa from the Norwegian embassy in Helsinki.rhiday wrote:I just received a job offer from Norway, for which I need to be there next week. It doesn't handle visa or rp applications. www.norway.no/fi/finland/betelgeuse wrote:De facto due to the Nordic Passport Union there should not be problems to travel. note that you might not be able to return to finland if you leave the country now:
18. I have submitted an application for a residence permit in Finland. May I leave Finland and then return to Finland to await my decision?
Yes, you may, if a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate) grants you a visa or if you can return visa-free. Please remember that you will not necessarily be granted a visa for the purpose of returning to Finland.
The Finnish mission decides whether to grant you a visa or not. If the mission does not grant you a visa or you for some other reason are unable to return to Finland, you will be informed of your residence permit decision by the Finnish mission.
