Dog peeing on streets

Post by qphxxt » Wed Sep 27, 2017 9:03 am

Are dogs not allowed to pee on the city streets or the sides of buildings?

I was confronted by a man near a flower shop around apartment buildings in my neighborhood. I had walked my dog for an hour at the park nearby and was walking back to my apartment. My dog sniffed around the corner of a building where there was visible dog urine all over it and peed a little over it. The man ran up to me and started bellowing that this was awful behavior and all other sorts of obscenities. I apologized and told him that she had already done her business at the park but was attracted to the odor of other dogs' urine and left a little trace of her own. He asked me where I was from and when I said America he screamed, "oh even better! Trump's idiotic country" and then told me that my apology was not enough and to never come back.

I pick up my dog's feces at the park and make sure she urinates on soil/trees but is this whole scenario unwarranted or is it just me? I see urine marks all over the streets and on buildings and random places. Are dogs forbidden to urinate on city streets or near apartments/buildings?

never heard anyone complaining about that, I could understand if you had left your dog's scheiße, but pee shouldn't be a problem. I f you feel guilty about it, you can do what they do in some parts of Spain, take a small bottle of tapwater with you and pour it of your dog's piss. Unfortunately having tramp as a president doesn't make you look good, do what the most part of Americans abroad do: say you are Canadian

I had the same problem a year or two ago, at the end of our walk, my dog did a little pee on the side of a building and an old woman followed us for about 50 metres before harassing us about it. She said it was against the law and I said I did not know that... I still have not found an answer but other people I asked seem to think it is not illegal and maybe next time I will tell her, "go ahead, I will wait here, call the cops", and see what happens. :)

Ridiculous that a nation of drunks that piss everywhere can get so upset about a few drops of dog pee at the end of a walk.

(I'm a half-Finn from Canada)

Edit: actually I found my thread from March 2016 which asked the same question and betelgeuse was kind enough to give me this good answer:
Ordinances were repealed with the Public Order Act:

https://www.finlex.fi/fi/laki/kaannokse ... 030612.pdf

This act only controls the pooping of dogs in Chapter 4 Section 1: "ensure that the dog's faeces are not left on the ground in a maintained section of a built-up area."

If it was explicitly forbidden, it would be listed among the Acts here:

You just met a grumpy man. Remember, in Finland we don't talk to one another unless it's to be rude or to whine about something, like a car that has been parked 1 mm off. People are really weird with dogs here. There's no dog culture the way there is in European countries, dogs are pretty much prohibited everywhere, including some market plazas, and since people are so anti-social, dogs usually also are badly socialized. This all results in low tolerance from non-doglovers. And if that person also has a bad day, like the guy who yelled at you, you get the situation you ended up in.

It's natural dog behaviour and please don't be worried next time you walk your dog, I know how these kinds of events really can affect how you feel and behave afterwards.....

I am one of those guys who are in favor of implementing some punishment for those dog owners who don't bother to pick up after dogs. And yes, the poop comes on street/sidewalk once the snow melts or during rainy season.
However, frowning upon dog pissing is taking a bit too far. Perhaps it won't be a bad idea to carry a water bottle with nozzle for situation when dog decides to pee on wall corners etc. Water coming outta nozzle will make dog excited, and you will have a better bond with it as well :D

Including all market plazas unless there is explicit decision to allow them. Kotka and Mikkeli have allowed that.

All dogs should be in a DNA database and anybody not picking the poo should be fined heavily. Our if they can't pay the fine their dog should be taken away from them along with banning them for life to have any pets. If they can take away children f
From their parents then why not dogs?

And yes, it's a good thing in Finland that dogs are not allowed into shopping malls.

Malls can have their own policies. Pets are not allowed to market plazas by law. Eg. Stockmann lets people bring dogs to premises (but not to Herkku, Deli, Bakery or cafes).

edit dogs -> pets
