Are there programs for Fins to quit smoking?

Where to buy? Where can I find? How do I? Getting started.

Are there programs for Fins to quit smoking?

Post by Klaartje » Thu Nov 16, 2017 9:39 pm

Hi all,

I have maybe a bit special question, but I hope you are able to help me out (I don't know where to go else).
My Finnish partner is quite a heavy smoker and he is not able to quit by himself although he would want to (for some part at least). After years of trying, patience and seeing his health decline, I have decided to take action in helping him.
I think the reasons for smoking are partly related to not being able to deal with emotions/stress and I think mental help (e.g. psychiatrist) could help with this.
I was wondering if you are aware of affordable anti-smoking programs/mental health help with addictions in Helsinki?
Please give me tips for this. Because of my limited Finnish and knowledge about services here, I find it hard to find out where he could get help.
I already talked with the student health service about this, but they didn't react very active on this.

Thank you in advance.

P.s. I now there are divided opinions and ideas about supporting your partner with addictions. Feel free to share your ideas. #nojudging

Bigger cities have decently translated their web pages to English so you don't necessarily need to know Finnish.

I think the health care doesn't act as it was you who contacted them. Forcing someone to stop smoking (or other drugs) is veeery hard unless the smoker wants to quit.
