Cheap eyeglasses?
Cheap eyeglasses?
Is there any place which sells relatively cheap eyeglasses? I'd assume they'd have to do the eye tests and all so those costs included as well. Asking for a friend

Re: Cheap eyeglasses?
when I need new lenses in my frames I sent them here https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/. New lenses are about 40e a pair. In Finland it's 3-4x that price for new lenses in an existing frame. I suspect they hike up the price to encourage you to buy new frames instead of just replace the lenses. The postage back to finland is just under 8e.

Eyeglasses in FInland are expensive. There are 2 ways you can save money:
1. You can wait for the 50% off sales. I think Instrumentarium has a sale now. Very few shops include the price of the lenses during these sales, but if you ask, you can usually get a discount on the price of the lenses. Fenno has the best prices for lenses, so you can choose your frames at any shop you want and order your lenses from Fenno.
2. Go to Tallinn. The eyeglasses in Estonia are the same quality as Finland, but you will spend a lot less. If you take the cruise ship from Helslinki to Tallinn, I recommend the Megastar. It's 2 hours and the ship is brand new.
If you don't have enough money for glasses and you are receiving KELA benefits, there is a form you can fill out for emergency cash. So, you might try using that form or go to your local KELA office and see what other advice they have. It's bad that eyewear is not covered for people who are legally blind. My vision is corrected with glasses, but I have quite bad vision, so my lenses cost over 400 euros. It's not really fair for those of us who can't fundion without eyewear to have pay over 600 euros for eyeglasses (frames plus lenses) while people who have better vision can get their eyeglasses for a couple hundred euros. In Finland everyone is supposed to be entitled to equal healthcase and for me, being able to see is not only required so I can function, but if I can't see, then I get severe migraine headaches which can lead to convulsions. So, it is a health issue.
