Losing Residence status when the kids turn 18

Post by hychamaz » Sun Sep 03, 2023 7:37 pm

Hello everyone! I heard some disturbing news today from a good friend that is UK expat. He said that his ex wife, who is Finnish, told him that when his kids are 18 that he will lose residence status. I am in the same boat as my kids are teenagers with dual citizenship. I am divorced as well and remain single. Has anyone heard truth to this? My residence card was just renewed for another 5 years. But my kids will both be 18 before that. Thanks

Unless his children were already in their mid-teens when he moved to Finland, this sounds like an ex-spouse trying to screw your friend.

Permanent is permanent, you are just renewing your card like you renew a passport.

In practice your permanent status cannot be cancelled unless you move away.

If they do not have enough ties to Finland when they turn 22, they might lose the Finnish citizenship.
It is all explained here on Migri's page: https://migri.fi/en/retaining-finnish-c ... -age-of-22

His ex wife is a bitch and he's gullible. That's your answer.
The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.
