Monthly living costs for a couple in vantaa

Post by Mimo90 » Wed Jan 10, 2024 1:36 am

Hei,
Soon my wife will join me so I'm little busy calculating monthly costs but it would be very helpful to receive your opinions :)

My after-tax salary is around 2700 eur, I'm planning to live in Vantaa, My wife won't be working for several months, so that would be our only income.

Do you think this is enough for a decent life? And what would be the maximum rent without compromising on food and going out once per week? And generally, economic wise, do you prefer public transportation or a car?

Thanks a lot 😄

Yes of course. I'd limit rent to 1000 max.

Public transportation. No point for a car since taking vacation abroad is much cheaper.

As someone currently living in Vantaa, here's a breakdown for you:
1. Apartment rental: Anywhere between 700-1100 depending on condition and size. You can get a relatively new apartment (1 bed + living room + kitchen, 50 sqm) for about 800-900.
2. Groceries: For two people, I'd say EUR 400-600/month max.
3. If you don't own a car, buy a monthly or annual pass, travel by public transport is cheap.
4. Electricity 15-20 EUR/month.
5. Cellphone subscription ~ 30 EUR/month.
6. Gym membership ~ EUR 30/month.

All of the above comes to about 1500-1700/month. You will still have another EUR 1000/month for clothing/enterntainment and other expenses.
