Lääkerikos or lääkerikkomus?Dna7272 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 10:19 pmDear friends
I need some advice. A week ago i ordered 5-htp from US, and a today i got something like a subpoena from Tulli. It turns out that importing 5-htp is illegal in Finland. But i can't understand fully what the mail says.
I have tried to do some research about it on the internet, but since I don't know Finnish i did not succeed.
My question is what is going to be with me. Is it going to be some kind of criminal offence? I am not a citizen of the country, and i don't want to get a criminal record, which would destroy my career.
Anyone who have some info to share please help!

My understanding is that right now they are asking for some kind of explanation why I ordered that supplement. But I have found on the internet that there are cases when people got convicted for 10 days and charged with a drug offence, for ordering 5-htp. https://www.ess.fi/uutiset/kotimaa/2014 ... a-tuotettaUpphew wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 9:57 amLääkerikos or lääkerikkomus?Dna7272 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 10:19 pmDear friends

Correction: Looks like I was wrong about 5-HTP not being controlled in Finland (which is utterly insane). The rest of the comment still stands. I've removed the faulty parts.
First of all, relax. You're not yet being charged with anything. At this stage, you're only suspected of a crime. The charge won't happen until the case is forwarded to the prosecutor who will then decide if they'll charge you. Even if you were charged, and you're found guilty, this will mostly result in a fine that will not appear on your criminal record. Okay? So relax.
P.S. The 10-day thing you found in your article is a 10-day-fine, not a prison sentence.

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

I'd contact Tulli, say that you don't understand Finnish and ask for the same information in English. There's a similar case from 2014, the end result was lääkerikkomus and 10 päiväsakkoa *) for the accused person.

Re: Help charged with medicine offence
5-htp is classified as medicine in Finland, even though it's available to buy here without a prescription, and it is not legal to import freely. Likely there is no mistake.Beep_Boop wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 11:32 amNow that you're a bit more relaxed, remember that 5-HTP is not a drug or a controlled medicine in Finland. It's an over-the-counter dietary supplement. You can buy it from regular stores. There must be some kind of mistake. The letter you received from Tulli probably contains contact information of the investigator. Call them and explain that 5-HTP is legal and that this is probably a mistake if it's really about 5-HTP.

Indeed. Thanks for the correction. I noticed my mistake once I found the article from 2014. I've edited my answer.

They just siad that i don't need to to anything and i am jot going to be charged. That is it basically. And yes, i ordered only a jar, with 60 tablets.suomenkansa10 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 3:56 pmSo what did they say? Because that news article with the same case is quite scary. Is your quantity less than a jar or what?

Hi! I know this topic was closed 5 years ago, but I'm desperately need an advice, since I'm facing the exact same situation with 5-HTP from Iherb. I stupidly thought that it was not a medicine in Finland. And I'm also worried about my criminal records.
Now I'm planning my answer to Tulli. They gave me 21 day for that. If you remember, what did you tell them? I would really appreciate it.
