Thought I should mention this:
In Finland we have 2 majority national languages - Finnish and Finnish-Swedish (actually same as Swedish just different pronounciation).
If you learn Finnish-Swedish, which is part of the Scandinavian family of languages, you have benefits that Finnish cannot give you.
This second national language is lawful, that is, you have the right to use it and get answers in this language from authorities.
Of course, you will always be understood in English too.
If you want to learn, practical learning in real life with people is the most effective, not theoretical. And this can be combined with finding new friends and having fun as well ! : ) Why I thought I should mention: there are cost free international groups that meetup that you can join, where you can learn this language, for example Friends Activity Group Finland (located in Borgå-Porvoo) and Cycling Activity Group Finland (rides both in Borgå and Helsingfors/Helsinki). I recommend to join if you want new local friends and learn the language : )
