New!! Finnish School v2.1 | Now with 4,338 words !!!

Postby Phil » Sun Sep 26, 2004 1:31 pm

I just added about 3,600 new words to Finnish School bring the grand total to 4,338. About 700 of the new words are verbs. We now have 183 different levels.

http://www.finnishschool.com

Please let me know if you experience any problems with these new words & levels.

Enjoy!! :D

Good Job!

Using Finnish-> English multiple choice
- the last few levels don't seem to have any content
- there is no "right" answer for "toinen toisensa" on level 21

In the previous version when going from finnish -> english there were sometimes two correct answers, and the "right" one had to be guessed. Saying that I can't find any just now, so maybe it's fixed.

Keep em comin'
Mook.

Cool, thanks for the info, I'll look into this. I think the multiple choice problem was fixed a while back, but maybe it's still causing trouble?

It´s all I do at work...

Postby Papu » Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:06 pm

Hi Phil!

Great job on the vocab-trainer... I´m going to move to Helsinki in March and already signed up for the level 3 course, so I have a helluva lot of studying to do before I leave...

For the last 2 weeks I´ve been sitting in work and kind of doing nothing much but finnishschool - since my vocab is still not enough to practice sentences and that...
Now if I can just get past that *!{*-ing level 6....

Thanx!
Papu

Lesson 21 Pronouns 1

Postby redgreen » Mon Nov 01, 2004 11:26 pm

I got a bit confused on lesson 21 pronouns 1. Is anyone else stuck? Some of the answers seem to be different than the ones in my book. :? Luther

hei!

thanks for the effort. but, may i say something?

i'v got a problem. many words are not the same if you ask or answer.
where? missä?
where... jossa....

this last one could be "jonne"
the sea where all cups fit
meri jonne kaiiki kuppit mahtuvat

and so on with other words like "when"
milloin, kun, koska...

i don't know, anyway i'm yet at the beguinning, in my own sanakirja, there are only something like 500 words by now.

ok, let's go on studying!!!
:)

"love is not all the water that can fill a cup. love is that sea where all the cups fit"
"rakkaus ei oleniin paljon vetta kuppiassa. Rakkaus on tuo meri jonne kaikki kuppit mahtuvat"

pitää hauskaa!
p*rk*le poika

I just opened for the first time
http://www.finnishschool.com/start2.php and took the vocabulary exam

problem is that while I know the spelling of jaatelo, it is practically impossible to generate the umlaut so of course I will flunk that part (there should be a section to allow conversion of a,o or click here if you are unable to enter a with 2 dots..)

also, it asked me 7 times porridge-puuro (I know it's random, but that bad?)

The Finnish 'a' and 'o' buttons didn't work for you? If so, what browser are you using?

When you get words wrong, it will ask you them more often. So, you probably got that word wrong a few times? If that happens, just go back to the menu then start it again and it clears all your "wrong words" and let's you start fresh.

I run CentOS so the browser is either Konqueror or FF and I also run an early alpha of e-XPedition with MSIE 7.0

but really, Phil, I *do know* how to spell puuro correctly, I was just wondering why I kept getting "CORRECT" and one question later I get the same question, repeated a total of 7 times

heh!

While doing the exam I guess repetition might be annoying, but I find as a learner, that the repetition really makes it sink in. :D

Yeahhh. I haven't tested it on that bizarre combination of OS and browswers. Try Firefox or IE :)
