Loimaa, anybody there

Postby mossman » Wed Mar 16, 2005 11:54 pm

Looking to move to Loimaa, nothing wrong with Kimito at all, lovely place but the wife wants to talk to people not shout!
So Loimaa apparently has a lot going for it, but would like to hear from anybody in the area or knows anything about the place.
Before anybody starts putting in their unaswerable "told you so's" I'm of the - wherever I lay my head that's my home -- wait for it -- ( in the broadest sense) gypsy.
Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular

From Kimito to Loima
Beware a Finnish saying...

Ojasta Allikkoon...
From the ditch into the muddy pond.

Try doing a google for Loimaa..does not throw up much.. :?
It is somehere in the middle of nowhere, half way between Turku and Tampere...

If it's a small community with a few people nearby and pleasantly located by the sea and within a drive to the "big city" (Turku), why not consider Pargas / Parainen.

It is a very Swedish community still (if I remember correctly that's a good thing for you and the Mrs.) and it is a nice, safe, beautiful area.

I've heard of nothing of Loimaa to recommend it or not... What's up there that pulls ye?

The language is not a "serious" problem, but whilst Kimito is a pleasant island, at this end it's a fair way to any airport, station or major conurbation and we have to rely on the motorised donkey, also and don't get me wrong. would like to see a bit of the "real" finland, whatever that is, hence the area around Loimaa seems a reasonable base.

Live where you like, but it would be foolish not to factor into your decision things like:

 Available jobs (if you plan to work)

 Distance to your job (if you plan to get one)

 Nearest shop/kioski?

 Any dependants (or future deployment of?) How far is the nearest facilities/päiväkoti

 One Motorised Donkey or two (high car taxation is another topic)

 How important to you/your partner is interaction with other humans?

 Omo Ranta (by the sea) sounds nice, but you'll be able to drive your car on it for 6 months of the year

 Add in an extra €1k or €2k for the purchase of a tractor and plough.

Are there any Roma on the list? They might be in a better position to advise you

PS Living in Helsinki/Espoo/Vantaa is like living in the country and the Finns call them cities.

That's excactly what it gives you. Not a bad choice, and still not that far away from anything. Only that I'd picture Loimaa as one of the most boring small 'cities' there are. I mean, what's there? Some 70's block of flats for sure, maybe an S-Market and R-kioski, a public library and that's it... No I've never been to there, but just judging by its location and size.

Why Loimaa, of all the places you two could choose???

Old coots that drive in front of you 50 in a 80 zone seem to congregate in Ruovesi. I suppose that is the coot-central. Just north of Tampere.

Ps looking at map for Ruovesi, found Orivesi, see what you've gone and done now :)

Mrs Zax comes from Loimaa, we visit her family there often.

She left as soon as she was old enough :)

Can't say I would like to live there - can't say anything bad about it but then can't say anything good either. It's that sort of place. Even the countryside is rather dull.

Handy for Alastaro though, if you're into car/truck/whatever racing :D

Gotta say.... compared to where you are now located, Loimaa sounds pretty dull.

Go for the archipelago-metro area... sounds much nicer, if you got a choice.

Loimaa sounds like a little suburb of a suburb with nothing but a petrol station a supermarket and a post office.

At least the archipelago has the archipelago going for it!
