Thai tailor in town in April, mens suit 210 euros

Postby Hank W. » Wed Mar 10, 2004 3:18 pm

OK, resurrection and update of an old thread:

There is a Thai tailor "Bobby" that comes to Finland twice a year. He takes measurements and orders and then the suits are made in Thailand and shipped over here in a few weeks time. They're delivered to an office in Espoo you need to pick them up from. Payments are made when ordering (cash or, credit card, no pankkikortti) and reclaims or repairs are handled by a seamstress shop in Helsinki.

As I've done business with him before (the pinstripe & vest at the 1st manala bash) I can recommend the price/quality ratio. I haven't had problems but some people have gotten slightly mismatched coats. You need to do as told to get a refund - they've got a reputation to keep.
And - he speaks English

I've a 'company window' for measurements (15 min. each) on Friday 8.4.2005 between 14.30-16.30. at Libella offices in Innopoli. If someone wants one of those times please PM me, I'd need to have the list ready by 28.3. If the place or date is bad you can email kalevi.vanhatalo@avaks.com directly, he's running the show.

The price list is as follows:
Suit 210 EUR
Jacket 160 EUR
Trousers 75EUR
Waistcoat 55 EUR
shirt, cotton 35 EUR
shirt, silk 40 EUR
Tuxedo 270 EUR
Tailcoat 320 EUR
Overcoat, wool 320 EUR
silk tie 20 EUR
offer: suit+3 cotton shirts + silk tie 315 EUR
offer: suit+extra trousers+3 cotton shirts + silk tie 385 EUR
offer: suit+waistcoat+3 cotton shirts+silk tie 365 EUR

Some cloths +10-30%
Delivery free.

So if someone is interested please PM me for details, but I really know not much more than this. If you contact Mr.Vanhatalo directly you can tell greetings from me (Henry Majander) so he doesn't wonder too much.

Oh, and sorry girls, this is a guys thing; but if you want your verkkarihemmo at home to look good..

Hank, there are several firms that do this, do you have the url for this firm's website?
if for no other reason than I might be interested, but am not in Helsinki at that time, but I would want to check the quality for myself.

EEEK!

No way!

Kabamaja is useful for many things, but for tailoring, forget it. If that is the level of the Thai guy, then I think I will not miss much by passing up on his services! Sorry!

There is a difference between inexpensive and cheap.

I thought it was in EEK?

Heh, Kaubamaja in Tallinn and Halonen in Heslinki are the places to go for cheap off-the-rack stuff.

Who talked about "tailoring"?

Hank, you and I share one thing in relation to shopping for clothes...

For both of us 'cheap off the rack' is not something that we can use!

An advantage of these various travelling Thai guys is that they offer the benefit of a rudimentary 'made to measure' service. Quality of cut and fabric tho; can be a whole 'nother story.

It has been a long time since I was able to buy anything in the way of suits, jackets etc that was cheap. Your comment about Kaubamaja immediately put the wind up me in respect of the Thai guy, notwithstanding that at the prices indicated by you, upthread, the fabric MUST be pretty cheap.

yeah one thing ive been wondering though is that gas is in here Guangzhou about $0.36 USD and thats roughly 0.25e? each litre the thing is we use it as same with new cars and i havent seen any difference we have the same advertisements Esso and Caltex as many others give in Finland example they advertise this "green fuel" if there is any :P but is that the same !"#¤% they sell in other countries with high prices...?

Things are more expensive in Finland, especially from where you are coming. You will have to get used to it.

Petrol (gas) includes lots of taxes here.
