A couple of years ago the bear count living in Nuuksio was 3. Maybe they have moved.
meat?
Re: meat?
Strange, as a park guide living near by says "there are stories about bears in Nuuksio, but nothing proven". Could you give link to that bear count?EP wrote: A couple of years ago the bear count living in Nuuksio was 3. Maybe they have moved.
Re: meat?
It was in Länsiväylä, and it also obviously had the source. But that was almost two years ago.
And that famous city bear some years ago, it had come from Nuuksio, and disappeared back to Nuuksio. A taxi driverand newspaper deliverer saw it at 5 am just 500 metres from where I live. And I live south of Nuuksio.
And some three-four years ago my brother-in-law was practising for Jukolan Viesti´s night part in Leppävaara, Espoo. Right in front of him was suddenly a bear. He had frozen stiff. It had started to make some strange deep noise. And now the funny part: BIL started to back up slowly, and started to SPEAK ENGLISH to the bear. The bear suddenly turned around and disappeared to the forest. BIL started to run, and only later started to think why on earth he spoke English, and why he spoke at all. He had been cooing like taming a dog.

Well, stories...I found one riistanhoitopiiri announcement that there would be 3 bears in Nuuksio in...was it 2004? Anyway, as I understand, even that is kind of a quess ,not based on hard evidence..
Perhaps a bear passes by the park once in a decade, as to seeing one in Nuuksio...more likely to win lottery.

Re: meat?
I actually had bears in my front yard (Catskill Mtns, NY, USA) several years ago:

(Sorry I'm such a lousy photographer. The photos are taken through a window, too.)
Seeing one bear is not that frightening, since the bears are usually just as frightened of us as we are of them. What's worse is that I was walking in the woods last year, and had a sow and her cub nearly cross my path. They were going at a right angle to me, with the sow walking away, but the cub wandering a bit aimlessly. Worse, since I was on a loop trail, the bears were between me and the house!

There was a bear in Ikea car park in Espoo about 4 or 5 years ago but it was a Sunday so not many people saw it. A schoolteacher on a bicycle called the police who followed it for a while and then the bear returned to the forest. It must've found a route from Nuuksio into Espoo's Central Park. Was in all the newspapers.
