New citizenship laws to be voted on

Post by NansDrivel » Fri Sep 15, 2023 5:02 pm

On the r/Finland subReddit I saw that the proposed citizenship laws will be presented at parliament around 23 Feb - 3 March 2024:

https://intermin.fi/hankkeet/hankesivu? ... 34:00/2023

QUESTION: Are terms of new proposals typically passed as written, or are their negotiations which can modify the terms?

The negotiations were during government formation, the proposal implements the result of the negotiations as written on pages 225-226 of https://julkaisut.valtioneuvosto.fi/bit ... 062023.pdf

Minor changes are possible.

Bummer, I hoped they would go into force already Jan 1st.
The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.

Thanks for that publication. So are these basically in force now? Have they been made into laws, and if so, do they become immediately applicable?

The 275 pages in this publication are the government programme listing what all parties in the current government have agreed to implement.

Turning the government programme into laws is now being done.

Items like raising the time required for citizenship to eight years or requiring a citizenship test have already been agreed in the negotiations between parties representing a majority of members of parliament, there is no second round of negotiations on such items since a majority is already assured.

Thanks for your help as I try to learn about Finnish governmental processes and politics.

So this will all be presented to the edeskunta now for implementation?
