She needs to fulfill the residence period (4 years, as Finnish citizen wife) at the time of application. Also needs to have YKI or equivalent language certificates. Some people do apply, 1-2 months before the residence period is fulfilled but what is the hurry to risk 350€? Also, some people posted here much faster processing times, e.g. 4-5 months.

Hello all.
First of all, I would like to thank you all for the support that you guys have expressed here. This thread has really helped me with the questions I had regarding the application. All of the help is much appreciated, so Thank You!!!... ALL of you. :)  However, there are some questions I still have so if anyone can help, it will be much appreciated.

I applied for citizenship (recently) towards the end of November 2017. Here are a few details about me:

Male, Asian, Single, 29 years old... ( soon going to be 30 in a couple of months).
1. Been living in Finland since 2007. From 2007-2016 (9 years) in B permit and from 07/2016-present in A permit. If I am not mistaken, that makes it more than 5 years of continuous residence: nearly 1.5 years in A type + 9 years in B type (=4.5 years) takes the total continuous period of residency to 5+ years.
2. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Finland
3. I have a YKI language intermediate level certificate (3's in speaking, reading and writing, but under 3 in listening comprehension)
4. I have been employed throughout my stay here. I have provided all the testimonials from my ex employers and the current salary slips and work contract

So these all seem to be a plus on my application. However, there are a couple of details that might affect my application:

a) I had some unpaid bills that went to ulosotto. I have made all those payments and I am debt free right now. However, the mark on my credit stays till Sept 2018. (The only remaining payment I have to make is to Vero, the deadline for which is in Feb 2018.)
b) I had a penalty fine of 80 euros from the police 3 years ago which I paid immediately. I am not sure if fines count towards having a criminal record. Otherwise I am fairly clean.

So my questions here are:
A) If, at some point in recent past someone has had bad debt, but by the time of the application all such debts have been cleared, does it have an impact on the application? Can the citizenship be denied if there is a history of bad debt but which has already been cleared?

B) What impact does the police fine have? Does it enter into the criminal record and if so how long until such records will be erased?

C) What happens if I move away from Finland for more than 3 months after placing my application? Will it have an impact on the application, or on the required period of residency?

D) And lastly, about the conscription. It is highly unlikely that I will receive my citizenship decision before I turn 30. Assuming that I get the citizenship after I turn 30, is it still mandatory to join the Finnish army? Not that I don't like to go, but given that circumstances in life when you are 30 are not the same as when you are in late teens and early 20s, the trade-offs are quite high at this point in life.

Again, if anyone has any kind of input it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance and good luck to all of you :)

I would like to add that during the process of my application. I was once requested additional document by one of the officials. And when I looked up that person name from internet, it seems to me that the person is knowledgable of the cultural aspect, political situation of the region that I am from (East Asia), or maybe even have spent some times living/traveling to the area. For that reason, I guess citizenship applications are handled by different groups of specialists depending which part of the world you are from, which sounds very logical to me and also explain why some applications takes longer to process than others.

Hello,
Finally today is my turn (my wife also got positive decision one minute before me). I have been received positive decision. No any request. Best wishes to anyone who are waiting. Just be patient. If you meet all requirements, don't worry and just wait because the problem is just time since applications vary case by case.
About me, Asian guy, less than 30 years old, having 2 years B as a degree student since 2012, then more than 3 years A granted on working ground (IT engineer).
My timelines:
2012: set foot in FInland
16/6/2017: identified at migri Helsinki service point
10/10/2017: moved to stage 2
15/12/2017: decision made

Hi All,

I applied for citizenship in August 2017 and below are a few details about me:

1. I have been living in Finland since 2012 (3 years A + 2 years B permit)
2. My job contract and A permit is valid till October 2018.
3. I moved away from Finland after submitted the application and inform Migri about my absence during the submission. I also present the documents from my employer that I will work abroad for a year.

Today I received an email from Migiri that I should be in Finland while they are making the decision. They request supplementary documents that show I moved back to Finland, such as termination of work agreement abroad. Now I have plan to back to Finland while they are processing my application.

So my questions here are:
A) How long does it take to take a decision after submitting the supplementary documents?
B) What impact does my absence for four months from the date I submitted the application? or on the required period of residency?
C) Can Migri demand living up to 2 years after returning to Finland?

Thanks for your time and help.

A)It can be on the same day or several months, depends on the application.

B) Is has not interrupted your period of residence. Also being on a work assignment from a Finnish employer is a good excuse for the absence.

C) If they consider your residence period is interrupted, yes.

Hi All,

I don't fully understand the below clauses at Trips outside Finland – effect on continuous residence. Does the specified permissible periods here refer to the each absence period or the total accumulative absence periods?

"The following periods of absence will not interrupt your continuous period of residence:
absences that last a maximum of one month
a maximum of six periods of absence that last 1–2 months each
a maximum of two periods of absence that last 2–6 months each"

My Finish employer is send me abroad for a period of 1 year and I am wonder how often I should visit Finland to avoid the interruption of continuous residence.

Thank you so much for your support.

Applied today.
Have 3 years on A and 1.5 years on B.
Permanent contract with a salary sufficient to support family.
Yki all 3s.

The officer said it is a little short of the required 4 year but accepted the application. I have seen instances in this forum where applications have been approved even with 3.5 year Continuous residence.
Hoping for the best.

Maybe a new 2018 application thread should be started (if not one already)? ;)

If I remember correctly, there's a section on migri website that states that working for a Finnish company abroad is counted as continuous residence.
If that is the case, you do not need to return at intervals in order to maintain your residence.

Hi,
For those who received your Finnish Citizenship recently, I have a question:

I wonder if there is a thing called "Citizenship Certificate" exist in Finland. When MIGRI approves and grants someone the Finnish Citizenship, do they send you an official decision with their stamp on it (possibly a paper version)? OR is it just the decision that you read (can be printed) on enterfinland website?

My home country is asking for a Citizenship Certificate from Finland and I wonder which one should I supply? In case if it is the electronic decision that can be read on enterfinland, then it does not have any stamps or any other means of official confirmations. Can I still use this as an official document?

Thanks!
