Re: End date of RP

Which country is your wife from (or where is she travelling to for the wedding)? I am assuming it is a non-Schengen country. Depending on that, there could be a few points where there could be scrutiny. 1. Immigration in your wife's home country (or wherever the wedding is). 2. At the airline counte...

@FinlandGirl,

This is a sincere question. You have an extraordinary amount of expertise. Without getting too specific, are you involved professionally in governmental affairs, the legal community or academia?
Have you considered the possibility that he/she/they are the government? :lol:

Re: Remigration Visa Questions

If your grandfather was born in the USA, then he is a US citizen and not a Finnish citizen by birth-I don't think he would have qualified as a Finnish citizen since Finland did not allow dual-citizenship back then. You can certainly submit the application and see what happens I suppose.

Is healthcare the same for people with residency permits compared to citizens? Should someone with a residency permit buy supplemental insurance?
If you are a permanent resident then you have the same rights to the same over-stretched public healthcare that citizens have.

Re: Swedish classes

You can certainly try to learn Swedish as well but Finnish is obviously more useful in Finland. As FinlandGirl stated, 6 years is more than enough time to learn Finnish to the level required for PR puropses.

Re: permanent resident situation

After two years abroad, your P-permit will no longer be valid in most cases. You can apply to MIGRI for an extension of the P-permit prior to it expiring. I don't know how they decide whether they grant the extension or not.

Re: Father became a citizen after I was born

Finlandgirl, how is it that you’re so well-versed in immigration? Do you, or have you, worked for Migri? Are you an immigration attorney? Not just Finlangirl, most of us-especially the non-EU types with "dodgy" names and passports-who have lived here for any length of time have become wel...
