Fair enough, Tiwaz et al. I'm sorry I even commented on the whole matter.

Re: selecting student or racism in Finland?
I don't really care if it classifies as racism or not -only pointing out it's not fair play, at least in my opinion... being treated in an inequal manner because of what someone else has done earlier. Just sayin'

Re: selecting student or racism in Finland?
Hiya. Popped in after a very long period of not doing so. Thought I'd comment on this. In short, there's a lot of hot air in the comments ;) perhaps because the term "visa" is a bit ambiguous. But also because not everyone has encountered the problem at hand; the original poster has indeed...

Re: Where to find Subbuteo?
I'd wager that some of the Subbuteo enthusiasts here would be interested to see pictures of possible old Subbuteo sets, advertisements, etc from Finland... as mentioned in an earlier message I distinctly remember that Subbuteo was advertised in Finnish comics at least in the early/mid 70's - I wond...

Re: Olive Oil
Virgin and extra-virgin olive oils are good for salads and cold dishes. Quite so. I always thought the sensible thing was not to waste the "good" extra virgin oils into frying or cooking... unless indeed you live in a location where olive oil comes from your back garden! :) Since "ch...

Then why isn't it called the fagplant? And why wasn't the Oasis song called "Aubergines and Alcohol"?Jazqas wrote:Very tasty, just remember eggplant has the highest nicotine content of any edible fruit

Re: Easy, quick & tasty eggplant recipe
Now that looks interesting.....not too long ago I had something similar, Punjabi-style fried eggplant...some sort of spicy batter....Not bad, though a little overcooked. The "key" with eggplant is not to overcook it...which, I think, is much easy to say than to do....:D Yep, best not to o...

Re: Highschools in English
If you are living in Finland then entrance to high school is via the Joint Application System which is a national clearing house operating on similar lines to university clearance (UCCA???) in the UK. The student chooses his top 5 high schools and then depending on his grades he will go to his 1st,...

Re: siellä ja tuolla
I guess the closest word-for-word translation I'd be able to come up with for "The Man Who Wasn't There" would be Mies, joka ei ollut läsnä , with läsnä meaning "present." That would have been better, yes. Or why not Poissaoleva mies  (occasionally I wonder if it would be a...

Re: siellä ja tuolla
Strictly speaking, siellä requires a prior point of reference... One example of "bad" usage was the translation of the movie title "TheMan Who Wasn't There" -> Mies, joka ei ollut siellä ... that's just... very clumsy, precisely because there's no context / point of reference. h...
