Well, bread fans, here is the final word from Truebell:

DEAR STEPHEN,
WE HAVE COME TO A CONCLUSION THAT IT´S USELESS FOR YOU TO TRY TO DO ANY MORE
TESTS WITH THIS MACHINE. WE ARE TRULY SORRY FOR YOUR TROUBLE AND WE WOULD
LIKE TO MAKE IT UP TO YOU SOMEHOW. PLS RETURN THIS MACHINE TO THE CITYMARKET ...

what is the v/Hz/W of your machine??? Mine (the Kenwood BM200) is 220-240V 50/60Hz and 613-730W

I only ask because I just remembered I once bought a slo-cooker in the UK and it never worked in France (the food didn't cook at all, not even slo-ly). My dad reckoned it was a problem with the ...

The second one was great but weighed only about 750 g even though the book said it was a 900 g loaf.

You made a great loaf on your second attempt??? Now I am sick as a parrot :)

I sent an email to the manufacturers of the Chef machine this morning detailing my using the exact recipes they sent ...

It's ridiculous that, if you did indeed follow the instructions in the recipe book included with the machine, you had to make 12 loaves to find the correct ingredients. I hope that you also included in your letter a quote of the cost of all the ingredients you wasted.

I just received a response ...

If the recipe included with your break machine does not have the correct measurements, perhaps a letter to the manufacturer is in order? Or at least to the translator of the recipe book?

Yes. Actually loaves 11 and my latest loaf 12, although edible, were not so great. The are still a bit heavy ...

More news, bread lovers...

Loaves 10 and 11 have been baked:

And, to cut to the ending, although they look quite similar, they are not inside. Loaf 10 is much like the others, but loaf ...

From the photo, it looks as if the bread is dark? Are you using a full grain bread in a French bread recipe? With this recipe, use only plain white flour of it won't bake properly.

Hi Cory,

Actually, the colour is quite light - the photo is not coloured perfectly. The flour is that ...

Another exciting installment.

I tried something else. I made a half sized loaf. I did this by halving the amount of the ingredients in Cory's recipe. Well, I don't have much ingredients left any more :(.

I used the slightly shorter smalled loaf size basic program. I used just about half a ...

bread mark 8

Hi folks,

Well I took the machine back to citymarket yesterday, and they exchanged it.

I used Cory's recipe, and made a new loaf - I set it on the timer to be ready this morning. This was the result:

It sank again.

Interestingly, it rose ...

I am amazed at your persistence ( sisu). When and if you do give up, try Artessani bread. It is really nice and so much less hassle plus superior taste to any I have tasted from a bread machine( -in-laws attempts). The bread you made looked truly revolting....I liked the pictures of Pinja she is ...

Sorry for the delay, I was away for a few days. Yes, it's the Chef C-735. Why do you ask? (Do you know something I don't?)

Re: bread making disaster

I don't have any other suggestions.. You used the recipe that I bake about 3 times a week and it works fine.

Good luck!

Thanks. I baked another loaf (#7) with your recipe, and a new pack of yeast. This time I used a bit less yeast because I had an idea that it was rising too fast.

But the ...

Re: bread making disaster

How big is the pan inside the machine? If the loaf is rising and bubbling, the yeast is good. The pan can only hold so much and allow for so much expansion..it would fall if it got pressed against the roof of the machine pushing the air out of the loaf. Without the air bubbles, it's a sinker thus ...

bread making disaster

Loaf number 6, according to Cory's recipe, sadly sank itself into another inedible disaster.

I updated my web page with more pictures:
http://www.stephensykes.com/blog_perm.html?99

I wish I could work out where I am going wrong. Maybe there is something wrong with the yeast?

measurements

Google is a useful resource for conversions - for example 1 imperial teaspoon in US teaspoons . The keyword is "in" - you can type in virtually any measure "in" another measure and it converts. It's pretty useful.

My bread machine is kneading up Cory's recipe now. The dough looks very well formed ...
