Re: New government’s proposed changes to citizenship and residence permits
This is just the first phase. There will be 2 more phase come to change the law. Citizenship test, income requirement etc etc. Correct. However, the citizenship test is unlikely to be particularly hard to pass. My guess is, it will be a piece of cake compared to YKI. It remains to be seen what the ...

Re: New government’s proposed changes to citizenship and residence permits
I am interpreting a bit differently. I think it says that if you clear the language test it is 5 years from what is currently 4 years. So even if someone clears it in November, he or she can still go for citizenship after they complete 5 years provided they satisfy the other conditions. I'm not spo...

Re: Non-Finnish speaking Brit possibly moving to Finland - Any advice....?
Recruitment agencies won't help much, outside IT there are not really jobs available for people who are not able to work in the local language. We have discussed this many times on this forum. There are other fields than IT (for example academia). Doesn’t mean that English speaking jobs would be pl...

Re: Court dismisses assault charges against daycare workers, orders child to pay legal costs
I have to clarify one part about fine the parents, I would rather need to say there, let the parents be liable for the legal costs of the other party, because they made the decision to file suit. It just seems unfair to slap a debt onto a 5 year old of 35.000€ while the small child has not even any...

Re: YKI Passed One Module and Can I apply for Finnish Citizenship?
I have passed YKI in one module READING, can I apply already now with this result for Finnish citizenship? By the time application is in queue, I am going to take part YKI and pass the Speaking module as soon as I can. Is it even a logical approach ? Or I should wait for passing YKI requirement and...

Re: Remigration Visa Questions
If your grandfather was born in the USA, then he is a US citizen and not a Finnish citizen by birth-I don't think he would have qualified as a Finnish citizen since Finland did not allow dual-citizenship back then. You can certainly submit the application and see what happens I suppose. Did you ver...

Re: Court dismisses assault charges against daycare workers, orders child to pay legal costs
I should have been more clear and need to rephrase the "discretion of the court" . An opinion piece from a judge at Yle.fi some years ago, stated that according to this judge, the court does not necessarily need to award reimbursement of legal costs if the difference between financial mea...

Re: Court dismisses assault charges against daycare workers, orders child to pay legal costs
Further more, the court is not obliged to decide to have the losing party to pay the costs of the other party, this is at the discretion of the court. A child cannot take a loan from the bank even if the guardians try to, you would need permission from the DVV and they will refuse. Therefore the ab...

Re: Unpaid internship and permanent resident permit
Hi everyone, Do we need to declare the unpaid internship when filling out a permanent resident permit application? I had an unpaid internship for a Swedish company, and unfortunately, I lost the contract. I reached out to the manager and asked if I could get it back, but no guarantee. I wonder if i...

Re: Relation between Unemployment benefit and visa renewal
So are you planning to renew a visa or residence permit? Residence permit I am not sure if I understood correctly, but you are saying your spouse is your sponsor and showed funds for 1 year for you and your children yes? Then how can you ask for unemployment benefits after 4 months? Is this not the...

Re: Timeline for moving after receiving residence permit card
Hello. I'm new here. I just received a positive decision from Migri and am waiting for my RP card to be mailed. (I'm from USA.) The start date of my RP is 15/04/2024. However, that is also the date listed on my employment contract as a start date. I would like to move a week earlier in order to get...

Re: Is healthcare different for RP vs citizens?
Is healthcare the same for people with residency permits compared to citizens? Should someone with a residency permit buy supplemental insurance? If you are a permanent resident then you have the same rights to the same over-stretched public healthcare that citizens have. The significant distinctio...

Re: Is healthcare different for RP vs citizens?
It is mandatory for Finnish employers to provide occupational healthcare, and the services provided by the employer-provided private healthcare are usually sufficient that employees rarely have to use public healthcare. ”Statutory occupational health care does not include medical care. However, an ...
