Re: Basic child allowance

Good thought, in my opinion. But only in theory. In practice, Finland simply can not afford to even begin thinking about implementing something like that, no matter how dire is the birth rate drop. In Estonia, for example, they parental benefit is 1,5 years of 100% pre-birth income, and reverse of ...

Call the HUS patient ombudsman and they will help with the next steps.

Thank you very much. Finally I was able to call them but sounds like i’m not going to get anywhere with it. :(

Hospital Complaint

Does anyone have experience filing a complaint with a hospital, particularly regarding giving birth, Naistenklinikka of HUS. What were the process steps, how long each stage was taking and what was the outcome?

Re: Earliest age to enter daycare

I doubt they would accept a child younger than 9 months old. Besides, an application processing time is around 4 months. And yes, your wife not working will have its impact - your application will have a lower priority in the queue compared to those working/studying.

Well, I didn’t know about Ofsted, so there is a good starting point for me right there. Thank you! :)

Re: Moving FROM Finland To England

Thank you again Risamunda. 800£ For a small flat sounds similar to prices here in Espoo, and we are car (as opposed to public transport) type of people anyways. Besides, the intention is to buy a property as soon as we feel knowledgeable enough about the market and the areas, i.e. after a couple of ...

Re: Moving FROM Finland To England

Thank you very much Rosamunda.

Can you possibly elaborate a little what is considered a very expensive property price/rent? And at what age children move from a (very expensive) daycare to (presumably free?) school?

We are not expecting the move to elevate us financially right away but rather ...

Moving FROM Finland To England

Hello Dear All,

This is actually a reversed moving direction topic. :) Hopefully it’s still suitable here. My itchy feet are directing me towards greater London this time. (Thank you very much Penelope for your detailed answer in my other topic).

I believe there are a lot of English people here ...

Re: Antenatal Classes in English

Congratulations on your exciting journey! :) We did, sort of. It was just 2 couple of hours long "lessons" with a PowerPoint deck projected to a large screen in a school auditorium, arranged by Neuvola. Plus, informative videos on the Capital Region Hospitals site, about delivery and post-natal care ...

Re: just (another) cost of life question

Hello Sigurd

Brutto salary of 5000 plus a car without gas would leave you with less than 3500 but more like 3000, 3200 max. The fringe benefit of car is probably a lot more than 2000 per year. For example, I've got a quite modest company car, although with fuel included in the benefit, too and the ...

Thank you All for your replies. I visited 6 Finnish daycares in the vicinity and picked one. Normal, municipal. It has plenty of activities, including cooking, water games and carpentry; hiking trips and theater visits; lots of attention to books and learning about different cultures; organized ...

Multilingual Baby. Which Daycare? And General Daycare Questi

Hello Dear All,

I would like to appeal to the collective wisdom and parental experience of the users in the following situation:
Our baby is still quite small, not even a year old yet. We are planning on starting a daycare after a year. There are 3 languages in our family. Mom's, Dad's (Finnish ...

Re: Being pregnant in Finland - experiences

ewelek, that was EXACTLY my feeling, too! I used to he very disappointed and frustrated about it, but gave it a lot of thought and then I saw that it makes sense here, even though doesn't feel nice.

Another thing, is that the actual baby delivery arrangement and is a whole different, separate ...
