Re: restrictions on choosing a new last name
Basically you either need to have ties to your new last name (ie. a last name of a grandparent for example) or you will have to come up with a completely new name.
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.
A completely new family name in Finland is easy to come up with, as there's a ...

Re: Processing Time Checker
I thought the legal maximum time for application processing was 9 months. Schedule an appointment with Migri and find out what's going on. Have you and her given all the additional information they asked for?

Re: Opening a Finnish bank account with EU ID to deposit cash
I work in a bank and deal with foreign customers a lot. It is possible to get an account opened in Finland with any passport, if you have proven ties to Finland and can justify the need for a bank account. That is to say, you can't open an account just for the f*ck of it, but if you will receive an ...

Re: Residence permit application on the basis of family ties when your spouse is a Finnish citizen 2017- 2018
Just to be clear you cannot receive a personal identification code until after you have gotten your residence permit, as clarified per the immigration officer who assisted me and my hubs.

Re: restrictions on choosing a new last name
Basically you either need to have ties to your new last name (ie. a last name of a grandparent for example) or you will have to come up with a completely new name. That, or you'll have to have strong arguments on your behalf (for example if you're a perpetrator of a highly publicised crime). A ...

Re: Moving from Mexico
I imagine I’m arguing semantics.. but that can’t be true. Otherwise you earning less gross, pay more by percentage than those who earn more. Or does the money high earners save in taxes, trickle down to help everyone beneath them like it does here.
In Finland you need to be careful if you get ...

Re: Moving from Mexico
The Migri tables are not binding. They are required to give permits with lower income if you can show them that it's enough to support the whole family. Granted meeting this burden is not trivial.
While this may be true, do you know what kind of proof would they require to from a person trying ...

Re: Residence permit application on the basis of family ties when your spouse is a Finnish citizen 2017- 2018
OK U.S.A. peeps, I now have reliable information as I actually took it upon myself to e-mail the Finnish border security and got a surprisingly speedy reply. A US citizen, whose immigration process is ongoing, is allowed to travel in and out of Finland even after the 90 days in Schengen area in the ...

Re: Residence permit application on the basis of family ties when your spouse is a Finnish citizen 2017- 2018
I spoke with a migri woman a few minutes ago and she said that I would most likely have to send my documents back to USA to be legalized, and then submit the legalized divorce papers to the immigration service point. I asked her if I could go ahead and apply for the residence permit and would be ...

Re: Could really use some visa advice/help
You can apply for "other grounds" visa (cohabiting partners) but Migri has indirectly told me that the refusal rate on those is so high it's not even worth applying. I assume from your nickname that you're in a same sex relationship? That would not pose a problem, you can still get married and apply ...

Re: Moving from Mexico
You should take into consideration that here in Finland we pay a lot of taxes. My average gross income is about 3.300 euros a month, but after tax and workers comp and other mandatory expenses I'm left with approximately 2.300 in net wages, which means I pay about 1.000 euros a month in taxes and ...

Re: Opening a Finnish bank account with EU ID to deposit cash
I work in a bank and can tell you it is no way possible. You have to have a proven link to Finland (ie. job, RP, citizenship), a valid RP or a letter stating you've either registered to the police (EU citizen) or applied for RP, passport from your own country, proof of origin of the funds and still ...

Re: Getting a taste of Finnish language and culture by an extended visit? Or perhaps study?
In Finland the Master's usually needs to be in "relevant field", ie. I have a BA in Russian language and culture, so I proceeded to do MA in Russian language and culture and am now very inactively doing a PhD in the same subject field. Nursing is actually a four-year BA degree in Finland and most ...

Re: EU Right of Residence without address
It could be related to the fact that vagrancy was actually illegal in Finland for a very, very long time. So people without a permanent address could basically be arrested for being vagrants, although I seem to remember (somewhat fuzzily) that this has been abolished. Do you have any friends in ...
