Re: Your biggest struggles after moving to Finland?
Lemon and orange peels, used tea bags and coffee grounds can be left to dry and put into mixed waste or fridge to freshen the smells. Biowaste is either useful or disgusting. No way I'd keep those at home. I wish there is a mixer under kitchen sink to grind everything. Maybe it's no illegal to buy f...

Since you can't get refunded, what's the reason not to go? The visit is only about identifying yourself.

Re: Unemployment benefit cuts take effect on Monday; monthly support may drop by nearly €400
The disparity in income distribution between individuals in society raises fundamental questions regarding fairness and equity. At the heart of this issue lies the ethical dilemma of whether income differentials accurately reflect the value of individuals' contributions to society. While some argue...

Extra ventilation on window?
Does anyone what this is? https://i.imgur.com/xKQ6waq.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/6flk1Ib.jpeg The new color seems to indicate it's the previous owner's own addition. The ventilation device looks like this but I can't find any Finnish window supplier that offers to install it on windows. Maybe I can ch...

Re: Your biggest struggles after moving to Finland?
and then there was the issue of figuring out my building's garbage place. in Helsinki, i never did find it; ended up taking my small amount of (sorted, gotta recycle!) trash to some public recycling bins. then i moved to tampere, got handed a single key to an apartment, and this key did not open th...

Opinions on kela and tax changes?
What do people think of the changes that are already underway and planned? Will they be reverted when the current government is pushed out? The trend doesn't look good to me. Without proper welfare, Finland is not competitive (since the other end is US and they can pay much more), and no longer safe...

I used the same and they took care of everything. The charge is by hour so the more you do yourself the less you pay (their quote is an estimate for quickest packing)

Yes of course. I'd limit rent to 1000 max.
Public transportation. No point for a car since taking vacation abroad is much cheaper.

Re: Relocation as EU citizen
We don't want to get relocation support, we would like to manage it by our own. One of my colleagues suggested to tell this to the companies. He did and in 7 months he got a job offer. So it sounds like a good idea. Do you have a Finnish friend who can help you with bank, rental, etc? It won't be e...

Re: Relocation as EU citizen
we would like to relocate to Finland with two kids in 2024. We are EU citizens (Hungarian) and currently living in Budapest, Hungary Why? Your post sounds like coming from someone who has never been in Finland, and in that case a visit to Finland would be a good first step. It's not needed. I never...

Re: Your biggest struggles after moving to Finland?
For me, coming from a southern area like California, what is getting the most challenging is the winter. But not for the cold weather or even the cloudy sky, but for the short days... after 2 years I am starting to get used to it, but still... It might help if you can start working very early and f...

Ordinary life is okay. But it's going to be tough in the beginning when he or she needs to buy a lot of small things for the new home.

Re: Insects!
Not mosquitos, which are easy to block. The most annoying kind is a bit green. It crawls and flies so it seems to be able to go through net or gaps with ease, and there are dozens of them this summer, just came into my place, sitting their ass on lights until they literally die there. I start to thi...
