Re: reflective screens to cover windows?

Back in my old apartment in Munich we had the oldest windows in town and direct sunlight shining on them. The place would heat up to 30°C in summer. Our solution was to attach newspaper (on the outside!) of the windows, with that painter's tape that can easily be removed. After all this heat wave wi...

Re: bank statement online

accepted by whom and for what?

I would not even know where to get a printed and stamped bank statement. Things are so digital here that I'd assume an online statement will work (for whatever)

Re: Name change after marriage

Congratulations to your wedding. I hope you'll be able to take a honeymoon trip soon. Finland is not that secular as other countries and the Finish church is quite involved in state matters. Back in the day we were asked by the priest if we wanted to change last names. We didn't at the time but the ...

Re: My Ex Would Not Move Out,WHAT TO DO

This sounds horrible. It must be terrible to have someone in your own home who you don't want to have there at all. Here's a hotline number where you can get some consulting: https://naistenlinja.fi/in-english/ Is the guy really aware that you did break up? Did you actually ask for the keys to your ...

Re: old tenant does not remove their address in public registry (suomi.fi)

Maybe not opening the mail for starters :-)

I would simply write on the envelope that the addressee does not live here and that it was sent to a wrong address. And then drop it in a Posti box. It's certainly not your problem and I would just not get involved in it.

Re: Importing Car to Finland

I think you won't have to pay VAT at all. Your car is a removal good that you owned before moving to Finland.

According to that site, "You can apply for a written advance ruling on VAT payable on import."

Re: Regarding labour unions

I just recently started working here and considered it as well. For starters, I did not join it for financial reasons. I might do it later though. Well you asked for reasons to join, and I can't give you any, but I wanted to drop the idea of joining an unemployment fund: https://kokokassa.fi/en/ The...

Re: German playgroup anywhere?

Thank you for the link. I think that Finnish-German association was rather about cultural exchange but I sent them a quick mail anyway just because the local contact is actually from the village we currently live in. I'm aware that most of the international life is going on in Helsinki, and I even w...

German playgroup anywhere?

Hi all, I just registered to this forum. I'm a German father in a family of four. My wife is Finnish, and our daughters are bilingual in Finnish and German. We just moved to Finland in March this year after living in Munich for quite some time. After this pandemic situation will hopefully soon have ...
