Don't mean to horn in here, but after reading some of the comments here about the flavor of kefir I wanted to toss in my two cents flavoring!

I used to do the kefir grains thing with my Mother in law when I lived in California and we used syrup (the kind used for Italian sodas) to sweeten them. My favorite was raspberry. Seeing as kefir already has a natural pop n' fizz to it, it almost makes it feel like you're sipping a thick milkshakey kind of soda!

Just an idea for those wanting to try this, but leery due to the taste.

Hi Andre, if you have not found any grains, then I could share some with you. I don't have a lot but enough to divide.

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Helsinki a few months ago and I am also looking for kefir grains. If anyone has any to spare, I would really appreciate it! (Even just a few - I am patient enough to let them multiply!) ;) Also, I am happy to meet anywhere....

Thanks!
Katri

Hi Katri,
I have a few and have just offered half to someone else. Maybe we can divide them 3 ways. I live in Helsinki.

Hey Folks,

Just heard about these little grains last night at a Slow Food meeting, are there enough to share 4 ways Cynde? :) Completely understandable if not and I'm asking too late, it sounds like these are hard to come by so no worries if I need to be a little patient! I live in Helsinki also, thanks.

Cheers,
Steve

I do know someone in Estonia. I just wrote to him to ask if he still has some to share.
Here's a list btw http://www.torontoadvisors.com/supplier ... ds=finland ask to be added when you have some to share.

The person I sent grains to in 2009, and wrote to 10 minutes ago is Priit ! Looks like he is still giving them away! http://www.torontoadvisors.com/suppliers?page=15

Hi Cynde,

Yes it was Jocke, very good guess! haha :) No problems though, I cannot private message yet because I am new to this website...weird feature. My email is [email protected] if you want to send me an email!

Thanks,
Steve

I can mail you some milk kefir grains to Kuopio if you want, but I'll charge 5€ postage.

Cynde, thank you, but I was thinking of water kefir grains. Because I try to avoid milk products. Thank you for your quick reply! But if I don't fined any water kefir grains for sure I will contact you. Regards :-)

Do you all think Russian and Estonian kefir have the same taste? Obviously it's very different from piimä (and much nicer, in my opinion): tangier and less sweet.
