Sodium Benzoate

Post by harryc » Thu Jan 23, 2014 6:13 pm

Has anyone found a source for the food preservative Sodium Benzoate (E211)? I've tried the pharmacies and all that's available are medicinal tablets at of course nonsensical prices. It is available for the food industry in 25 kg sacks :-(.

I would be looking for 500-1000g.

Thanks

Thanks

I meant was willing to buy 500-1000g if only way to get it - it keeps :-)

Good re VitaBalans - they are not shy about pricing - but in this case can probably be 'affordable.'

Strange about webpage - called a number of PK pharmacies and they said such products only available at Yliopiston Apteekki. Called YA and they said only thing they had was a 500mg medicinal tablet. Will call VB company and ask where one can get the stuff.

BTW - YA charges 40 cents a minute to ask them anything! (And take their good time getting to the phone after connection - nice 'sampo')

As far as i know it is one of the most common preservatives and is very cheap . You should check companies that sell additives for food processing ....

Made a lot of phone calls andcame up with Berner, Bang, Algor but all sell only in industrial barrels and sacks.

Will be checking on the VitaBalans stuff .Pharmacies didn't know of it. Did use Finnish as well: Natrium Benzoat.

Yes: it should be common and cheap and Finland still has home/preserving cooks. Am surprised not easily available.

Estonia:

Good idea. It's amazing how many things can be found over there not available in Finland. Talk about a country leap-frogging!

Then again Tallinn was a real city at the time Finns were still coming down from the trees.

Will give a try on my next trip over.

Found few sites and one brand name, but somehow I feel like monkeying around rather than help you out.

That's why they were still up in the trees then! :)

There were these 2 Finns in the forest - one found a magic lamp - rubbed it and the genie gave him 3 wishes - he chose a mansion, filled with women (?), and a boatload of money.

The genie said his friend could get one wish too as he had been with the guy when lamp found - the friend's wish: "My friend doesn't get any of those things!"
