How to bring a gf over to the U.S.?

Post by gerg_861 » Wed Oct 01, 2003 12:25 am

Hey all,

I still have a semester of school to finish after Sanna gets out of Polytechnic, and we wanted her to come over to the U.S. and get a job for about 6 months starting in mid-January before going back to finland. Is there any easy way to do this? Does anyone have info? Sorry if this isn't the correct forum for this, I just wasn't sure where it fit.

Ha! Unless its an exchange program, getting a work permit to the USA is about as probable as an UFo landing. However, there are some programs - but to her getting to Madison - and the mention of a "boyfriend in the USA" will get her disqualified because of the incinuation she just wants to get herself there (and skip and become illegal). Going through the hoops if the "paperwork reducted - what is your tribe" - immigration is going to take a few semesters and the six months...

Here's your link to US immigration, have fun!

It's not so bleak! PM Anja. I think she was in the US for a while (and there had the terrible misfortune of meeting a life partner with a Z in his name  )

What's wrong with a Z in your name?
Aside the fact that every time you say your name you have to start spelling it...
Every time I tell people my last name they start rolling with their eyes... Hehehe... Is that what you mean?

If Sanna is still in school and some working time in the US could be counted as a work placement - she chould apply to CIMO. http://www.cimo.fi

Right around April Fool's Day you might get an official letter from the Ministry of Correct Spelling stating because you have funny letters not normally present in the Finnish language, you need to pay a maintenance fee of keeping these funny letters in the alphabet

My dad owns his own business, do you guys think that it would work to have him make up a job to get the work permit and visa, and then have Sanna just switch jobs after she gets here?

Well, that might work, but first your dad needs to go through the hoops of getting the DOL to issue the certificate.
