Quick check of the heart beat will be done every time.

If you know your travel schedule around the time of the next visit when you're there the previous time, there is no problem. If that much advanced planning is not possible, then when you know you will have a trip conflicting with the check up time you call the nurse to cancel and ask for a new more suitable time. Assuming you can go there more or less any time you are in Finland, rescheduling should not be too hard.

I am afraid I'll have to take back part of what I said. While the checking the heart beat is regular part of the nurse check ups, I am not sure was it done during very first time. Anybody else that can remember for sure (one way or another)?

I am currently pregnant and can say that, at least in Tampere, the nurse checks the heart beat after week 20.

They made us wait that two weeks. I think that is typical if otherwise things seem OK.

They make you wait until the two weeks are gone.
At least in Tampere area, they give you a check-up appointment at the hospital on the 41 week, but they might just check you and send you home and schedule the induction.
I had the check-up appointmnet on 41+4 day and my baby was born early morning of that same day! :) So no need to be checked-up!

Hmm...I have a few questions. Am not pregnant but I have been ttc for a year and half now with no success :( Ive been to a private gynecologist a few times now and ive been diagnosed with PCOS. Ive been on different meds but nothing :/ okay now my questions:

Ive read on this thread that a user has used Vitex agnus cactus, I also would like to try that but I havent been able to find it in the stores here, Ive checked Lifetime and pharmacies. Does it go by a different name??

Fertility treatments, how much? heheh I would think they are expensive but does Kela help with that?

Any information about fertility treatments and expenses, Vitex, anything anything would be great!!

** I do apologize if I went off topic but this seemed the right thread to post in :)

I see a few references in Google to a place called Kopararova (which Google Maps doesn't know) but I can't figure out how it got that name.

Can you shed any light on the word?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Hello!
I moved to Finland (the city of Lappeenranta) 2 years ago, because my husband got a job here. But, unfortunately, I don´t know anyone here. I have no friends, no family, and I don´t speak any Finnish :( So... this makes everything even more complicated.
I am pregnant already 6 or maybe 8 weeks... don´t know for sure. I don´t have any idea what I have to do now... How to get some medical help and how to get registered in maternity clinic? Is here some maternity clinics at all?
I would be very thankful for any information.

Call (or visit if it is practical) the local healthcare centre. They should be able to give you the instructions, schedule your first visit, and even do it in English. I assume you have the KELA card(?)

Hi starfish,

I was in a very similar situation to yourself. Do you have a Kela card? All you need to do is to call the neuvola nurse for your area to make an appointment with them. You can only contact the nurse between 12 and 1 Monday to Friday to make an appointment. If you call into the health clinic, as I did, they will just tell you to call the neuvola nurse (and depending on the clinic, speaking English may be an issue). I think this is a link with details of who you should call for your area. http://www.eksote.fi/Kiinteasivu.asp?Ki ... akymaID=29

Thank you very much for info!
But couple days ago appeared a new problem - I began to have terrible menstrual pains and also noticed traces of blood. My husband and I instantly made our way to Etelä-karjalan Keskussairaala the nearest hospital to where we live. After waiting for nearly half a hour for the receptionist we were very rudely told that this was not an emergency and told to leave. Yesterday I was in pain again and the bleeding started anew. Once again we came back to the hospital, this time I was scheduled an appointment. Unfortunately it took 5 hours!!! The doctor examined me for a couple of minutes and simply prescribed Paracetamol ratiopharm 1000 mg. This was supposedly for the pain. After that he said there is nothing more he can do, because the pain and the bleeding is OK ...or there is other option - possible spontaneous abortion. He told me to go home and wait. Wait for @#$% WHAT?!?! Spontaneous abortion?!?
But how about HCG test? Transvaginal ultrasound? Progesterone deficiency may be another cause?....
But there was no blood test or ultrasound made, I even did not meet the gynecologist :ohno:
Caveman!!!!
I have to wait till my appointment to the privat doctor 3 more days, since hospital refused to help me .. I still have the pain and light bleeding. I just really hope I will make it.

Hi,
I am pregnant on 7week and I would like to share my experience and also ask for some help.
In my hometown the pregnancy is monitored regurarly by a doctor. So when I learnt that I am pregnant at week 4 I called the general doctor and arrange an appointement. I just did what I would have done to my country (my boyfriend is not Finnish). He saw me next day, he was very polite but has some problems with English. The first thing he told me was about neuvola, for which I didnt know! Then I asked the doctor to confirm my pregnancy and to check my blood. We did the blood tests and yes! I was a new healthy pregnant! Then I asked him to confirm that I need to see a specialist (gynaikologist). He advice me to arrange the appointment on week 6 in order to make our first ultrasound and check the heart-beat. So last week I went to the gynaikologist. Her Englsh was really perfect, but it was our fault (me and my boyfriend's) that we didnt understant some doctor terminology. I had my fisrt ultra sound at week 6 and we saw the baby's heart! I arranged my first appointment with neuvola on week 10 and I have already asked for English-speaking nurce and the girl in the phone was really very helpful and polite.

I also would like to ask something: I am working in Finland already one year now and my contract has recently renewed for one more year. If everything goes well I will deliver on August 2013. The maternity allowance is for about 4 months. After the maternity allowance the parental allowance will start for about 6 months. Right? I am thinking of going back to my home country after the child's birth. So my question is: can I still get the parental allowance? What will happen in case I am in my home-country and my contract ends? I suppose that parental allowance is a benefit that women earn before they got pregnant? Or not?

I would really appreciate your help!
