International Summer Camp in Finland

Post by Aava Camp Finland » Wed Feb 04, 2004 3:22 pm

Press Release:

New international summer camps in Finland

Next summer, Aava Camp Finland will launch international summer camps in central Finland. Aava Camp Finland will offer all 9- to 14-year-old English- or Finnish-speaking girls and boys the opportunity to make new Finnish and international friends. The camp has more than 100 different activities, such as team sports, trekking, canoeing, making camp shirts, and much more. In addition to the traditional summer camp activities, campers will be able to learn Finnish or English as well as how to use the latest information and communications technologies. Aava Camp Finland’s staff will meet campers at JFK Airport, take care of their checking-in and make sure that everything goes fine during the trip.

Liisa Oinonen, from the information service of Suomi-Seura ry - Finland Society, says that Finnish parents living abroad are interested in passing on to their children the Finnish language and culture as well as their own background. ”It is great that our partner, Aava Camp Finland, is expanding this type of service in Finland for this age group.”

The Aava Camp Finland summer camps will be held at the Piispala Nature, Activity and Youth Travel Center, which is located in Kannonkoski. ”We selected the site due to its surroundings; its high-quality and safe settings; its kitchen, which prepares Finnish food; and last, but not least, Piispala’s wealth of experience in organizing camp activities that they have accumulated over a number of years,” says Jaakko Makela, the camp director.

The camp’s Web pages can be found at http://www.aavacampfinland.com.

I was told of a summer camp that does not allow for minors to have the rank on their shirt, unless they are Eagle. I do not like this because eventhough they worked hard to get Eagle, they had to work just as hard to make Life or any other rank.

Is your summer camp like this?

As far as I know, they do have a set up but not that difficult or structured. That's all I know. If you want you can inquire more about ranks in other concerns in a well known camp.

Sadly the advertised camp has not operated for some years.

If anyone is still looking for a scout camp to show off their badges:

Note the registration deadline on 24 January.
