you could turn to your terveyskeskus or neuvola. They shouyld be able to provide you a list of English speaking councellor. Other option is Kriisikeskus, in Pasila: http://www.mielenterveysseura.fi/sos-ke ... gners.html Call there, they will advise you and it is for free.
Good luck!

Wasnt there a priest who was also a marriage counselor in the Helsinki area and was fluent in English ?Maybe a search in this forum might reveal that?

How does marriage/relationship counseling work in Finland?

Are there counselors in private practice?

How willing or reluctant are couples to seek counseling? Do they expect to get it free or nearly free?

Are there stereotypes associated with it?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Yes, there was. Originally from Uruguay and married to a Finnish woman. And supposed to be very good. But he is now retired.

This month's 6-Degrees (the one with Jani Toivola on the cover) has an article on page 17 about "Duo" which is an association aimed at supporting intercultural couples. I'm not sure if they do counselling but they do run "relationship coaching" which is (maybe???) the same thing. They would almost certainly be able to put you in contact with a counsellor.

Psychotherapy Center Vastaamo (http://vastaamo.fi/psychotherapy) has 45 English speaking psychotherapist and psychiatrists and five psychotherapy centers in Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere and Turku. Psychotherapist is a protected professional title in Finland. You should always make sure you are dealing with a psychotherapist and not just a "couple therapist", if you are looking for professional help.

Be aware that if you use the public system, everything will be registered in your files. As far I understood from my colleague.
