Clothing and kids' visits, divorced family

Post by Doh » Tue Mar 14, 2017 8:12 pm

When parents are divorced or otherwise not together, what is the norm in Finland as far as the children's clothing and belongings when going from one parent to another?

Do they pack a bag to take to one parent, or do they have clothes and whatever else they need at each residence?

The custody time is approximately 70/30 and child support is paid by the 30% visitation parent to the other parent, with some "discount" factored in for the time they do spend with the children.

This is from a 2007 dissertation called Children's experiences of dual residence, based on interviews of 20 children (https://jyx.jyu.fi/dspace/handle/123456789/13389):

When the children were asked about what they packed when moving from one home to another, almost everyone mentioned clothes. Packing sports equipment was also common, as well as games, toys, books etc.

Six of the 20 children had all the necessary items in both homes, and they needed to pack as little as possible (except for the sports equipment).

There is a reference to previous studies that children consider the constant packing as one the worst sides of dual residence.

Thanks, I agree that it's best if they have most of the things they need at both places.
