When the dollar was good (low) and Finland was rich (late 1980's) people would go get 'junkyard finds' - classics from the 1950's and 60's. A lot of times cars arrived everything moveable stolen. (The car tax was then 35% on the cost+freight for over 25-year olds)jwesthues wrote:. I have heard stories (although nothing substantiated) of cars arriving in less than stellar condition (scratches and such)

Phil,
I just did a quick check inTallinn for some prices. How do you fancy a Golf, Blue metallic 5 door station wagon, 5 seats, 1.6 l (R4) Petrol engine power 74kW (100 hp), manual transmission, front-wheel drive. Odometer 169000 km.
Cost, to you my boy, a shade under €5800 for a 1998 motor...
Just wait till next year!

Hello,
Volvos seem to be a good car to go "get" from elsewhere. Look at the AKE page where it lists the tax assesments for cars. Buy a V70 turbo diesel for 10,000 in Germany, pay about 5,000 tax and you have a car for about 10,000 less than what you can get in Finland.
I'm still waiting on my tax assesment. Fingers crossed!!!
