Getting prescriptions during residence permit wait
I just learned today that I can stay in Finland while I wait for my RP application to be processed. The only thing that would keep me from going back to the US is the fact that I have prescriptions that need to be refilled, but I would really like to stay with my wife. She told me that I could see a doctor in the private sector, but does that necessarily mean I could get a prescription written for what I need? I know I’m not in the population registry for anything but my marriage, but could being married and having submitted an application have any bearing on my ability to get a prescription written?

Nah. Prescriptions are written for a reason and marriage isn't one. Doctors aren't supposed just to write new prescription, they should also see if drugs have worked, would there be better one available etc.undertakerfreak wrote: ↑Mon May 14, 2018 8:11 pmI just learned today that I can stay in Finland while I wait for my RP application to be processed. Tourist are also eligible for prescriptions. A private doctor can write you a prescription if deemed medically necessary.undertakerfreak wrote: ↑Mon May 14, 2018 8:11 pmShe told me that I could see a doctor in the private sector, but does that necessarily mean I could get a prescription written for what I need? A friend came to visit me a couple of years ago. Airline lost her luggage and she had to replace about 8 prescriptions. It was no problem for her as a tourist and the cost was even less than in her home country with insurance.

If it is a drug that is licensed for sale here, it is no problem. Depending on what it is you may want to check that, though: http://www.fimea.fi/web/en/databases_an ... s/fimeaweb
