Salaries

Post by Oz_traveller » Tue Sep 17, 2019 9:25 am

Hello,

I am an engineering project manager with more than 12 years of experience. What salary you would be saying this is a good salary for a family with two 10 and 5 years old kids.
I hope someone can help me here with an estimate of 3 bedroom house rent maybe near Espoo , utilities, transportation, food ...etc.
I know from one person to another it can vary but at least an average figure would be great.
Thanks

Nothing compared to Australia. Take your Australian salary and halve it.

Here is an article that you might find interesting.

https://www.foreigner.fi/articulo/work- ... 002843.htm

It actually stats that 2,600 euros per month, the most common earnings for employees in 2018.

That's probably the average and is not relevant for the OP, in my opinion a salary between 4500-5000 should be OK according to your profile and my own experience.

tax is heavily influenced by having kids? You can use the tax calculator to find out, and the oikotie for rental search.

600 per person per month would be a good estimate for groceries, microwave food and lunch restaurants, higher than cooking but not excessive by any means. public transportation is ~60 per adult if you need to commute.

4 persons on a single salary?? Vacation here is the real expensive part.

It’s not. There are perks though like the monthly child benefit from Kela.

It's 200€ for two kids. I believe I use more money than that on my kids, but it's something of course.

Thanks so much guys. I guess tax is quite high compared to Australia, from what I see here most likely 5000Euros are more of an average
do you use tax accountant to lodge your tax?

Nah. We wait to taxman to send their stuff, add deductions and plan what to do with the returns.

I don't see what you can possibly do with that, since tax is quite simple and there are very few deductions available. You could, however, move to Kauniainen which is a tiny town within Espoo with lower tax (like 0.5% or 1% lower).
